I didn’t sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, all I could see was the anger on Brennan’s face. Those fists at his sides. I had spent my life hearing stories about the monster that was Alpha Black, while my family beat me and treated me like a servant. If they thought he was a monster, how much worse was he going to be when he was angry? The thought pulled me out of bed. I tried to console myself by remembering he hadn’t hurt me by that lake. In fact, he had brought me back to camp and made me see a healer. It didn’t work, though. Eventually his anger would boil over, and who better to take it out on than a wife he didn’t even want. A wife who had lied to him. If he ever found out that they hadn’t actually slept together, what would he do? I couldn’t take the images my mind conjured up.
