I didn’t know how long I had been sleeping, but I was stiff and sore when I woke up, and I didn’t feel right. I was freezing cold, despite the warmth of the surrounding air, and I couldn’t stop myself from shaking. I knew what that meant. I’d had infections before. Every time they hit hard and fast. Every time I had spent nearly a week with a healer, and every time, I had nearly died. I was always surprised that Kia hadn’t just let me die. My thoughts were spiralling, and I shook my head to try and get myself back to the task at hand. I had left Lorne behind, which meant I didn’t have anyone to help me. And if this went as well as it had gone before, I didn’t have long. Would the human city have a healer that would help me? What would they want in exchange? A groan slipped through my lip
