*Aphrodite’s P.O.V.*
Dr. Reid came back after another hour and checked me before announcing it was time to push on the next contraction.
As it hit, I screamed profanities and pushed as hard as I could. After a few more pushes, the head of my screaming baby was delivered. It took three more pushes after that for our baby to be born.
“It’s a boy! Time of birth 0234 on September 18, 2019,” she announced as she passed out baby off to the nurses to clean him up after Zyaire cut the cord. I delivered the afterbirth soon after.
“APGAR at 1 minute 9. 8 pounds, 7.9 ounces, 21.5 inches long. APGAR at 5 minutes a perfect 10,” they announced as they brought him over to us.
I took my sleeping baby in my arms and just held him. “He’s so perfect,” I cooed to Zyaire.
“Look at his hair, it’s just like yours. Almost silver,” Zyaire whispered.
“What’s his name?” Dr. Reid asked as she filled out paperwork.
“Elias Samson Conri,” I answered without looking up from him.
“Named after your dad,” Zyaire said, and I nodded.
“The perfect name,” I replied.
Elias opened his eyes then, and I was shocked to see that they were amethyst, just like mine. He had a button nose and heart-shaped lips.
“He has your eyes,” Zyaire said to me.
“He looks just like my mom,” I responded.
Zyaire took Elias so I could get some rest. He didn’t cry until I woke up, wanting food. I placed him to my breast, and he latched without issue and began suckling. After ten minutes, I switched sides, allowing him to finish from that side.
That evening, we were discharged, and we carried him back to the packhouse and up to our apartment.
Soon after we settled into the apartment, Zyaire’s parents came up and were in awe of him. They cooed and babbled at him as he lie in their arms staring at him.
After about an hour, they left, and Freya came up with Trinity while I was feeding Elias. Freya took him as soon as he was done feeding, and I took Trinity while she held Elias. He seemed to sniff at Freya while staring at her and then shocked us all when he deliberately turned his head to look at Trinity and smiled.
“What the…?” I asked as Elias struggled to reach his little arm out towards her. I took Trinity closer to him, and their hands touched. As soon as they did, a flash of light filled the air but was gone just as quickly.
“What was that?” I asked, confused. I moved back to get more comfortable again, and Elias started whining. It wasn’t a cry; it was a wolf-like whine. And then, while still in Freya’s arms, he turned into a wolf pup.
“I think we need my Aunt, Uncle, and the Elders,” I said.
Freya set Elias on the ground and told me to put Trinity close to him, so I did. His little wolf form shimmied closer and closer to Trinity until he was touching her. Then they both fell asleep.
I picked up my cell and took a picture and sent it to my aunt before calling her.
“Aphrodite, what’s going on?” she asked as soon as she answered.
“Elias… he… he was looking at Trinity, Freya’s daughter, and holding his hand out and when I moved her closer to him and their hands touched a flash of light appeared briefly. Then when I moved her away, he whined just like a wolf and then turned into a white and purple wolf pup. He’s still in wolf form, sleeping next to her on the floor.”
“I see the picture now. The flash of light was the mate bond establishing. The turning into a wolf pup… you’ll have to contact the Elders for that. I’m clueless,” she told me.
I looked back down, and Elias was back in his human form. “I’ll give them a call. Thank you, Aunt Ariadne,” I told her.
“You’re welcome, and congratulations,” she said before hanging up.
I looked at Zyaire. Should we wait until tomorrow to contact the Elders?”
He thought for a moment. “Probably. It’s late now. Let’s get him to bed.”
I nodded and picked up the sleeping baby and took him to our room where the bassinet was. I lay him down and quietly left the room, shutting the door behind me.
“I’m going to head back down. I’ll see you in the morning.”
I nod. “Good night,” I tell her as I yawn.
“You too,” she says as she leaves the apartment.
Zyaire and I quietly make our way into the room and get ready for bed while I pump two bottles of milk for the night.
Zyaire pulls me to him, and we fall asleep quickly. A few hours later, we are awoken by Elias’s crying. I get up, pick him up, and sit on the floor next to the bed as nurse him until he’s full. He falls back asleep in my arms, and I place him gently on his back. Then I climb back in bed and go back to sleep.
Three hours later, he cries again, and Zyaire gets up to go warm up the breast milk for him before coming back and feeding him. I fall back asleep while Zyaire is feeding Elias and wake briefly when the bed dips signaling that Zyaire has rejoined me. The familiar sparks soothe me back to sleep.
I’m in a meadow in the territory. Wildflowers grow around it with trees surrounding us. Elias and another younger female pup are playing, laughing and giggling as Trinity chases them. Zyaire and I are there, watching in amusement as three more children join in.
I recognize Caisson immediately with his light brown hair and green eyes. Two more boys and two girls are also there, but I don’t recognize them yet. I look closer at the first unknown female pup and realize she resembles my late father. She must be our daughter.
I look closely at one of the boys and realize he looks exactly like Zyaire. Another boy of ours. Elias and Trinity look to be about 5, along with Caisson. What I assume to be our daughter and another boy that resembles Freya and Zaydon looks to be about 4, and Zyaire’s mini me looks about 3. The youngest two look to be about two and are mainly playing together, away from the rest of the group.
Suddenly Zaydon, Freya, Zayne, and Teagan appear next to us, watching in amusement as our pups play together. Trinity stops chasing them and approaches Elias, speaking in hushed tones, pleading with him.
“Please,” she begs, pouting.
“Not now,” he tells her.
“Pretty please,” she pouts, batting her lashes at him.
He grumbles and then suddenly, he transforms into a white and purple wolf. He takes off after Trinity, and she giggles as he gives chase, catching her and they tumble over each other, with him landing on top, giving a wolfish grin.
I’m awoken by Elias crying, and I get up to feed him and change his diaper. Zyaire wakes shortly after, and I glance at the clock. It’s 7 in the morning. I yawn and I feed Elias who falls back asleep with a full belly and clean diaper and place him in his basinet.
I get up and shower quickly. I dry off as Zyaire jumps in the shower. I brush my teeth and hair, pulling it into a high ponytail. Then I dress in a formal red dress, knowing the Elders are probably going to be making an appearance today. I grabbed the backpack breast pump and waited for Zyaire.
After Zyaire is finished getting ready, his parents come in to watch Elias while we head downstairs to make the call to the Elder Council.
Zyaire types in a number on his desk phone and puts it on speaker. It rings three times before it’s picked up
“Elder Kingston speaking.”
“Elder Kingston, this is Alpha Zyaire and Luna Aphrodite of the Blood Moon pack.”
“How can I help you?”
“My Luna just had her baby and… well, he touched our Beta’s hand and a glowing light flashed briefly. Then he turned into a wolf pup. We aren’t sure why, or how that’s possible.”
“What color was he?”
“White, with purple highlights.”
“We’ll be there as soon as possible. Give us 3 hours.”
“Thank you,” Zyaire says.
“See you then,” Elder Kingston says and hangs up.
I look at Zyaire as he put the phone back on its cradle. He looked at me. “What?”
“I had a wonderful dream last night. We had two more pups, and Zaydon and Freya and Zayne and Teagan had more, too.”
“Just two?” he teased. “I thought you wanted four total.”
“I do, but… maybe I was pregnant with the fourth. I couldn’t honestly tell you. I was too busy watching all the pups play, and Elias turn into a wolf chasing Trinity.”
He groaned. “How are we going to keep that from the pack?”
“I don’t think we’re going to be able to. Let’s see what the Elders say first.”
He nods. “Good idea, let’s go get breakfast, then you can go pump.”
“Good idea,” I said, and we got up to go to the dining hall.
Zyaire’s parents met us there and I took Elias before going to my office to nurse him. He fell asleep afterwards, and I held my precious pup for a few minutes before rejoining breakfast. Thankfully, they had brought a basinet stroller down, so I laid Elias in there while we ate. Teagan fawned over him, as did the rest of the pack that passed by.
After another couple hours, we bundled Elias up to go meet the Elders outside. Zaydon, Zayne, Freya, and Teagan were with us with Trinity and Caisson.
Seven SUVs pulled up and an Elder stepped out of each one along with two guards each.
After they approached the porch, we bowed at them.
“Alpha Zyaire, Luna Aphrodite, I’m Elder John Williams, this is Elder Kristana Kingston, Ellie Edwards, Rubrum Knightlock, Avon Nightingale, Gerald Wilson, and Dominick Garcia.” Each one lifted their hands as they were introduced.
“Come on in, we can go to the conference room to talk,” Zyaire told them, and they nodded. I noticed Elder Wilson carried ancient looking books.
We led them upstairs to Conference Room 1 and we all settled in.
“This is the pup that changed into a wolf pup?” Elder Edwards asked, and we nodded.
“We found a couple texts about it, but nothing to indicate that he’s in any danger from hunters,” Elder Wilson said, opening his book and showing it to us.
Once every decade, a pup is born to two Alpha wolves, one possibly as a witch hybrid, who will have great abilities from mind-reading, aura/soul sensing, photokinesis, visions, and more, and the ability to change into a wolf from a very young age, even from birth. Some are even born as wolf pups.
It is said that these pups are meant for great things, that they are a gift from the Moon Goddess herself. It is said that they should be treasured and taught from a young age about the importance of the mate bond, so they are not taken advantage of.
These pups can only be produced when both parents carry the gene in their bloodline. Almost all of these pups are male, but there is a history of females being born. The females are more beautiful and enthralling than their male counterparts, having traits of vampires to entice males to them.
All in all, these pups are not usually sought after by hunters any more than their normal werewolf counterparts.
Zyaire and I sighed in relief but also in stress. Elias would have many gifts which we couldn’t even begin to decipher or understand.
Elder Kingston held out another book.
Pups born with the ability to shift from birth are said to be Primordial. It is likely that either parent has latent abilities as a Primordial that are not yet discovered or that have not yet shown themselves. These abilities tend to appear six months after their eighteenth birthday. Primordials do not usually gain their abilities until six months after their eighteenth birthday, though some may develop them as soon as their eighteenth birthday.
The gene for these abilities must be carried by both parents for the Primordial bloodline to continue, though both parents do not have to be full Primordial, though one must be. Pups born as a Primordial are able to shift into wolf form from as early as birth, with some even being born as wolf pups.
Those born as wolf pups usually take their human form as soon as they are in contact with either parent and can and usually will shift once in contact with their mate from any age. Once the first shift around their mate occurs, they usually only shift a handful of times uncontrollably until they reach the age that they can control it, usually around age two or three. These uncontrollable shifts usually only occur around the Primordial’s mate.
I sigh. That means that I am probably Primordial, since Zyaire is definitely past 18.5 years old. At least once I gain my abilities and learn to control them, I’ll be better equipped to help Elias learn to control his.
Elder Williams holds out yet another book.
Primordials are not usually commonly sought after, though they may be coveted by dark witches for their amazing abilities, though most dark witches don’t want to be connected to a werewolf.
Almost all Primordials have the ability to read minds (telepathy) and super speed, strength, and healing. It is also more difficult to kill a Primordial than other werewolves.
Other abilities such as telekinesis, photokinesis, teleportation, invisibility, healing (the ability to heal others with their mind and/or magic,) premonition, and the ability to sense ones’ aura/soul-sensing.
I sigh again. “Please tell me there’s not more?” I ask.
The Elders shake their heads. “That’s all we have, at least,” Elder Kingston tells me, and I groan.
“Well, I guess Aunt Cora and Uncle Maverick may have answers; if not, maybe Aunt Ariadne will know more about my parents. How is it possible for me to be a Primordial if my mom was a witch?”
“That may be a question for the King and Queen of the Witch Council,” she said. “We have made copies of these entries for you,” she added as she produced papers and handed them to Zyaire.
“Thank you,” I said, and Zyaire and I bowed. “You are more than welcome to stay for the night, and we can hold a banquet in your honor,” I tell them.
“No need, we were informed of other pack matters we need to attend to. We may need you for them, though, so please be close to your phone for the next several days.”
“Let me get you my cell phone number so I don’t have to stay in my office 24/7,” Zyaire said in a joking tone, and they chuckled. Elder Garcia produced his phone, and Zyaire read off his number to him as he typed it in his phone.
“Thank you, Alpha Zyaire,” he said once they’d finished, and Zyaire nodded. “If that’s it, we’ll be going now.”
We nodded and led them back outside where their vehicles waited.
After they left, I mind linked Uncle Maverick to come to Zyaire’s office after we arrived there. I nursed Elias while we waited. He finished quickly and went back to sleep in my arms. Uncle Maverick came in shortly after, and his eyes landed on Elias.
“So, this is our future Alpha,” he said, awe-struck.
“Elias Samson Conri,” I told him, and tears welled in his eyes.
“Named after your father but looks just like your mother. A perfect name,” he told me, fighting back the tears.
I nodded. “That’s not why I called you here, though. I wanted to actually ask about my parents. My lineage.”
Uncle Maverick nodded. “Okay,” he said.
“Was my dad a Primordial?” I asked, and Uncle Maverick seemed startled by the question.
“He… yes, he was. Is our future Alpha one, as well?”
“We believe so. We also have reason to believe I am as well,”
“Based on what I know of your birth, you would be correct.”
“What do you mean?” I questioned.
“You were born as a wolf pup. Your parents were surprised, but not too shocked. They expected as much.”
“And Eros?”
“He was born in human form. From what I know, Primordials only occur once a decade.”
I opened my mouth to say something, but my vision went black. I felt Elias being taken from my arms before I was somewhere else entirely.
