Chapter 3: Hearts That Changed

541 Words
Months passed, and graduation day was just around the corner. Kian had changed completely. He had left his old gang, wore his uniform properly every day, and had even passed all his exams—something everyone thought was impossible. Teachers praised his improvement, and students stopped being scared of him, seeing him as a kind, helpful person instead. Mia had changed too; she was still smart and studious, but now she was brave, happy, and full of life. But not everyone was happy with their changes. One afternoon, the same group of bullies from months ago cornered Mia near the school gate. They were angry that Kian had changed, and wanted to take it out on her. “Where’s your bodyguard now, little nerd?” one of them sneered, stepping closer. “He’s too busy pretending to be a good student to save you this time.” Just as they reached out to grab her, Kian appeared, stepping in front of Mia instantly. He stood tall, his voice firm and calm—nothing like the angry fighter he used to be. “Don’t you dare touch her,” he said. “And don’t think I’m the same guy you used to know. I’m not going to fight you, because that’s not who I am anymore. But if you hurt her, you’ll have to answer to me, and everyone else here who knows what’s right.” Other students passing by stopped and stared. The bullies realized no one was on their side, that everyone respected Kian now. They mumbled angry words and walked away, knowing they couldn’t win. Kian turned around to face Mia, checking if she was okay. “You alright?” he asked softly. Mia nodded, smiling at him. “I’m fine. Thank you. You really have changed, Kian.” Kian smiled back, a genuine, warm smile that he only showed her. “It’s all because of you. You were the only one who believed in me, the only one who didn’t give up on me. You taught me I could be better.” “And you taught me to be brave, to be myself,” Mia replied, her eyes shining. “You changed my life too.” On graduation day, they stood together on the stage, holding their diplomas. When their names were called, they looked at each other, and in that moment, they both knew. After the ceremony, Kian walked Mia home. He stopped outside her gate, took a deep breath, and spoke. “I used to think I would never have anything good in my life. That I was just the bad guy everyone hated. But then I met you,” he said softly. “You’re the best thing that ever happened to me, Mia. I love you.” Mia’s face turned pink, but she smiled brightly, her heart full. “I love you too, Kian.” They proved that no matter how different two people are, no matter how far apart their worlds may seem, they can meet, change each other, and build something beautiful. The gangster and the nerd were no longer just labels—they were two people who found love, purpose, and the best version of themselves, all because they found each other.
