SMART DETECTIVE

Jasmine wanted to run, but her leg was numb and, in the blink of an eye, they were both surrounded by huge security guards. The gaze of the guest didn’t leave their body for a second. "We are toasted. What idea do you have to get out of this one?" Caleb asked. They watched as the security guard stopped them and walked down the stairs. "I have just the plan," Jasmine replied. "Who are you guys? Speak up!" the security said. A smile curved on Jasmine's face. She let out a sigh that the security didn’t see the dead body. She reached into her bag and took out her badge, flashing it in his face. "I am a detective. I was invited here to enjoy the party, but it seems you don’t want me to?" Jasmine said, with a poker face. "No! no! Ma'am, I am sorry. I didn’t know who you were, so I was curious. Please forgive me. I promise I am not always like this." The Security said. "If my boss invited you here, it must be for a reason," he added. "You have spoiled my mood. I am leaving." Jasmine said with a cold glare and held tightly to her back, turning towards the entrance of the hall with her head held high. "Detective Caleb, let’s get out of here. We are not needed." She said, walking majestically towards the entrance. "Right behind you," Caleb said, walking away with her. "Ma'am, please wait. Don’t go." The Security said, running after them. Jasmine halted at the entrance with sweat forming on her forehead. She needed to get out of there as soon as possible before she was suspected as the murderer. "It’s alright. I just received a call from the headquarters. I gotta bounce." She said, with her gaze fixed on him. He clasped his hands together. "My sincere apology," he said. "Very well." She said and ignored him, sashaying out of the hall. Immediately, they got out of the hall, they hastened their footsteps and got into her car. "That was close." She said and fastened her seat belt. She fired the engine and sped up the car, driving away at great speed. "You are a good actor, but you overdid it," Caleb commented. "Says someone who was relying on me for help." She said, glaring at him. He scrunched his face just as the car came to a halt. "What happened? Is your car trying to get us killed?" he asked. "Hell no, I think I ran out of gas." She said and got out of the car. She filled up the car with the little fuel she had left in her trunk and drove her car to the gas station. ************ Leonardo arrived home and collapsed on his couch, breathing heavily. He tossed the mask to the floor, staring at Levi and Olivia before him. "That lady was a pain in the butt. Never in my life have I met someone like her. She is so fierce." He said. "What about this dude over here? She is also fierce," Levi said, and elbowed Olivia. Olivia closed her mouth with an invisible zip, telling him to shut up. "Do you think this is funny?" Leonardo half yelled. "No boss," Levi said. "Pick up that mask and burn it. I hope you didn’t leave our card at the crime scene." Leonardo asked. Levi shoved his hand into his pocket and realized that the card was not in his pocket and tossed Leonardo a fake smile. "I didn’t leave it there." He said. "Then show it to me," Leonardo said, and got up from the couch, giving him a cold glare. "I think I dropped it somewhere, not at the crime scene," Levi said in a shaky voice. Leonardo moved closer to him and held his neck, gazing into that eye. "I know it’s your job to drop our card at the crime scene to send a warning to Maxwell, but I told you not to drop it this time because of that girl." Leonardo said, stressing the word "girl" in disgust. "I didn’t hear what you told me there, boss. It was too noisy. I couldn’t hear a thing, but I am sure she didn’t see it because the room was dark." Levi said. Leonardo let go of him and removed his hand glove, tossing it to him. "I hope she didn’t see it. Burn that along with the mask," Leonardo commanded in a bass voice, and gazed at Olivia, who was grinning nervously. "Gather information about that girl. I don’t know if she saw my face, but I need to be sure if she isn’t a threat." Leonardo said. "I will run some background checks on her, but I know a few things about her," Olivia said, walking closer to him. She made sure to stand two feet away from him. "Tell me what you know." He said with his brow slightly raised. "Her name is Jasmine, she is a famous detective. I heard she is fearless and bold and there is no case that she can’t solve." Olivia said. "Not for long. I am sure she hasn’t stumbled over our case." Leonardo said with a smug smile. "She sounds interesting; gather more information about her." He instructed, and walked away to the kitchen. Levi tossed the things into a trash can and set them ablaze. "I hope she didn’t see the card, and is your fingerprint there by any chance?" Olivia said, looking at his gloveless hand. "No." he replied flatly, with his leg wobbling. "All set and ready to move." Jasmine said. She was clutching the steering wheel when her phone rang. "Shh, the lazy boss is calling." She whispered and cleared her throat before picking up his call. "I know it’s past your working hours, but I just want to let you know that I have important things to talk to you about in my office tomorrow." He said. Jasmine yawned. "Alright, sir." She said. "Wait a minute, were you sleeping?" he asked. "Hell yea." She replied. "Sorry to disturb you." He said and hung up. "I am tired of people telling me sorry all day. It’s boring." She said as she drove off.
