Jasmine drove Caleb to his apartment. He got out of the car and slammed the door.
“Don’t forget to bring your car to work tomorrow!” she yelled and ignited the engine.
"Jaz, wait, I forgot something.” Caleb said, running back to her. She lowered the glass of the car and stared at him.
“What?” she asked with a poker face. He drew out a card from his pocket and handed it to her.
“I saw it at the crime scene when I was helping you off the ground,” he said. She took it from him and glanced at it. She gasped and let go of it.
“What’s wrong?” Caleb asked.
“Oh my god, this is similar to the card we found the other day,” she said in a shaky voice.
“I think it has something to do with the murders.” Caleb said.
“What the heck is a devil’s breed? Try to see if you can find something.” She said, dropping the card on her lap.
“I will do that tomorrow. I am sleepy.” Caleb said.
“Do it today!” she said in an authoritative voice and drove off.
Jasmine got home, she drove into the driveway, shaking her head because of the loud music that was coming from her house.
She groaned and opened the door.
“What the hell?!?” she exclaimed as her gaze landed on a bunch of people in their apartment smoking and drinking.
“Summer!!!” she yelled, her voice echoing in the house. Summer was not in the living room, so she turned off the sound system.
“Summer!!” she shouted.
"Who the f**k is that b***h yelling at?" a guy asked.
“I think she just barged into the house without an invitation.” Another one concluded.
“I am the owner of this house, delinquents. Everyone out!” Jasmine said and took out her gun, showing it to them.
They all started walking out of the house one after the other, as she held the door for them to pass.
“Kids are meant to be sleeping, not turning someone’s house into a club.” Jasmine snarled, rolling her eyes. A guy stopped and stared at her.
“kids? How old are you 47?” he asked.
“That’s none of your business,” Jasmine said, and she pushed him out of the house. He poked his head at the door.
“What did I do wrong, ma’am?” He asked.
“Get out, don’t make me pull the trigger.” She threatened. He walked away. She made sure they were all gone before she shut the door and looked at the house. It was a total mess. Bottles of beer, pizza covers, and cigarettes were strewn across the room.
“Where the f**k is that b***h?” she said, walking to the bedroom to look for Summer. Summer was smoking in bed with two guys by her side. They were all laughing as they talked.
“When I was dancing, he wanted to touch my butt.” Summer giggled.
“How about I touch your butt?” Jasmine asked. Summer opened her eyes wide in surprise and turned to look at Jasmine. She smiled nervously.
“I wasn’t at home and you turned my house into a nightclub!” Jasmine snapped.
“Awkward.” One of the guys said, and they both ran out of the room.
“Guys don’t go,” Summer said with a sad face. Jasmine's eyelids were getting heavy. She needed some sleep. She grabbed the mop and tossed it to Summer.
“Go and clean up your mess!” Jasmine said, kicking Summer out of the room. She landed on the bed and drifted to sleep. The next day, the buzzing sound of her alarm woke her up from sleep. She jumped out of bed and hit the shower.
She drove to work and started walking into the company when Caleb approached her.
“Good morning Jaz, I heard the boss wants to see you. What have you done wrong this time?” he said.
“Is he here yet?” she asked.
“No, he isn’t,” he replied.
“Come with me, we need to check out the cards.” Jasmine said as they made their way into the lab. She placed the cards on top of a white counter and poured white powder on them. The fingerprints on the cards appeared.
“Give me the scanner.” She said, extending her hand to Caleb. He opened the top closet and took out the scanner. He handed it to her. She was about to scan the fingerprints when Caleb mistakenly hit a test tube and the chemical in it spilled on the card.
“f**k it’s ruined.” Jasmine said, glaring at it.
“I am sorry Jaz, I didn’t mean to do it. I just wanted to rest my hand on the counter.” He said.
“s**t! You are the most unprofessional detective I have seen, we were this close to catching the criminal. You blew it.” She groaned. Staring at the cards.
“It’s just some random card, and besides, it doesn’t have a thing to do with our case.” Caleb half shrugged.
“It has everything to do with the new case,” Jasmine said.
“It’s not our case since the boss hasn’t given it to us, and we still haven’t been able to solve that robbery case.” He whined.
“Detective Jasmine, the boss is calling you.” Their boss, secretary, said as she walked into the lab.
"I've got to go, see if you can get anything off that card's name." Jasmine instructed and scurried away.
Jasmine knocked on the door of her boss’s office.
“Come in.” he stated in a rumbling tone. She walked into the office and gazed at him. He was a man in his late 40s with a bald head and a white shabby beard.
“Good morning, Mr. Ray.” She said, bowing slightly.
“Good morning, Miss Jasmine. Have a seat.” He said, as she sat in front of him, he clasped his hand on the table.
"I received a call from the police department informing me that the robbery case had been solved and the suspect had been apprehended." Mr. Ray said. Jasmine couldn’t help but smirk. She thought she was going to lose her job because she hadn’t been able to gather enough information.
“You did a nice job, Miss Robinson,” he said, extending his hand to her.
“Me? What did I do?” she asked, with her brow slightly raised.
