The door swung open and cut through the silence. Two police officers strode in, the radios on their belts emitting a low crackle of static. The fluorescent lights bleached the room a stark, flat white. "Is Bianca Sterling present?" The person who had been clinging to the table leg and wailing a moment earlier could not even produce a hiccup. She scrabbled backward on all fours until her spine hit the wall with a dull thud. "It wasn't me. I didn't do anything." The lead officer flipped open his badge. "We've received multiple reports. You are suspected of fabricating a family crisis and running a fraudulent fundraising campaign on campus that extracted money from numerous students. The total amount meets the statutory threshold."
