"Accident" Done on Purpose

1689 Words
"This is a knight of Laraudia. General Mildos is asking if you know the whereabouts of Miss Lydia." I heard a woman's deep voice behind the door. Mildos is the General? No wonder he's more aggressive and menacing than the other Centaurs. I could almost understand his constant anger and irritation towards everything. "What do we do?" Asmodai asked beside me. I patted his head as a spell comes into my mind. "Just act normal." I answered and he nodded. I stood and walked towards the door, whispering quietly in the process. { Mirage } A chill ran down my spine before I twisted the doorknob. A female Centaur stood behind the door looking annoyed and impatient. "I haven't seen her. I was supposed to meet with her, but she wasn't in her shop." I answered, opening the door widely on purpose. Her eyes darted towards my room and I turned to see my bed completely empty with Asmodai smiling at the both of us while swinging his legs. "And who is that child?" She nodded towards Asmodai who's still sitting on the side of his bed. "My son." I simply answered. "Hello, Miss!" Asmodai greeted her cheerfully. She gave him a small forced smile before looking back at me again with a stoic face. "If you see her, tell her to come meet General Mildos at the gates. There's an emergency." She grunted before going away, not even bothering to hear my reply or see me nod. Centaurs aren't really sociable people, are they? I let out a sigh and closed the door. I turned to see Lydia back on the bed, still sleeping peacefully. "What did you do?" Asmodai asked, frowning in a mix of confusion and interest. "Just a little illusion to save our lives." I grinned as I sat back down to where I was before. Now, all I need is to wake up Lydia and apologize for what happened. However, I have no idea on how to explain things to Mildos. I could always result in using some enchanting spells to make him believe anything that I say, but I don't want to abuse my own skills. However, I do know a spell that would instantly wake Lydia up but I only hope that she doesn't mind having nightmares. I stood and put my finger on her forehead and thought of the demon that haunted my dreams last night. { Dreamcast } I transferred the horrifying image into her mind. As soon as I put my finger away, she's already stirring wildly in her sleep. "Let's wake her up." I said to Asmodai and we both shook her awake. She kept grunting and groaning, her face contorted in fear and horror. She was even mumbling and whimpering things that we can't understand. "Lydia! Wake up!" Asmodai and I repeated multiple times as I lightly tapped her cheeks and Asmodai shaking her shoulders. When she finally opened her eyes, she was panicking and panting uncontrollably. She's probably looking for the demon or wondering where she is. "Okay, okay. Calm down, you're awake now." I said slowly as I caressed her back. Asmodai sat in front of her, looking concerned. I was about to cast 'Calm' on her, but I immediately decided not to. Whatever anger she has in store for me, I know I kinda deserved it. "Where am I?" She asked as she looked around. "The Inn. You're in our room." Asmodai answered. Lydia nodded and sat straight, trying to steady her breaths. She then looked at me and slapped my shoulder. "Hey, what was that for?" I unconsciously blurted out even though I know the answer. "I did tell you to go all out on me, but I didn't tell you to almost kill me!" She said through gritted teeth. I raised my hands for her to know that I wasn't going to do anything. "I didn't know, okay? I still can't control my power." I said and she stopped hitting me. "You and I are going to have a very long talk about this power of yours and I want to know everything. I swear, if you lie even just one bit I will personally kick you out of the gates and not even Mildos can stop me." She kept pointing an offending finger towards me but I just nodded instead of answering her. She stood and paced around the middle of the room, looking so frustrated and angry. If she keeps being angry, I would definitely use 'Calm' on her. Asmodai and I looked at each other and he shrugged at me. I suddenly missed Sierra and her constant calm and cheerful personality and Silas with his silent demeanor yet kind personality. I'd pick the both of them over Mildos and Lydia anytime. "I'm sorry, okay? I honestly also didn't know that it would turn out like that. Anyway, Mildos is looking for you and I don't know what to say to him." I said, trying to change the subject. "Good. We're going together." She declared and I just nodded at her. It's better than facing that Centaur alone. We left Asmodai back in the Inn and we proceeded to go to the gates. There's a pretty big crowd gathering, probably gossiping about the crater that I caused. I heard multiple galloping hooves behind us and the people made way for a few Centaur knights rushing to go outside. "Oh, no. What did you do?" Lydia murmured as she shook her head, seeing how the crowd and the Centaur knights are reacting to the situation. We excused ourselves as we passed through the people and they automatically stood out of the way when they saw Lydia. As soon as we stepped outside of the gates, we hear Mildos' raging voice. Right behind him and his men is the huge crater being inspected by some humans who're also dressed like knights. "What do you mean you don't know where Lydia is!? Are all of you so goddamn incompetent!?" His deep voice became deeper as he growled every word. "I'm here!" Lydia announced herself as she ran towards Mildos who looked like he's about to punch all of his men into oblivion. I saw Mildos visibly relax as I catch up to Lydia. I stopped a few feet behind her as the anger in his gaze returned as soon as he saw me. Ah, I can feel the jealousy that's practically begging to be released out of his system. "You better not have anything to do with this, human." Mildos pointed an offending finger towards me and I felt a vain pop in my head in irritation. I deserve to be reprimanded, but not by him. I frowned at him, saying nothing. "I need to talk to you in private." Lydia said, stealing Mildos' attention. "Fine." Mildos sighed, "All of you, get back to work!" He yelled at his men and they immediately dispersed, along with the people gossiping at the entrance. Mildos started to walk away and Lydia grabbed me by the arm before following him. I just let myself get dragged away, staying as silent as possible. I have a spell reserved in my mind, but I can't let Lydia know about it. I'll let her negotiate with the angry Centaur and if things go south, I'll use it without hesitation. I know I said that I don't want to abuse my skills and abilities, but if I'm going to deal with someone like Mildos then I'll have to change the way I do things. "What do you want to talk about?" Mildos finally asked when there's no longer any crowd to listen to us speak. We're standing close to the crater, away from prying eyes and ears. Lydia started to explain the situation and I could feel Mildos' temper rising dangerously quick. After explaining, he stomped his way towards me and not even Lydia could stop him in his tracks. He pulled me by my collar and I felt myself snap. { Forbidding Touch: Mildos } A harsh force pushed Mildos back, almost making him fly. His huge body made a loud thudding sound followed by a loud groan as he fell inside of the crater. "Mildos!" Lydia cried out as she ran towards him in panic. I stayed where I was, frowning and slightly panting in panic and contemplation of what I just did. With that spell, he's now forbidden to touch me in any harmful way or else this will happen again and again. I could use a worse spell that would make him obedient to me, but I can't use that kind of spell with Lydia around to see it. But then again, having the General of the knights of Laraudia and a powerful Wizard as allies would gain me lots of advantages in the future. On the other hand, I can't use any obvious spells that would make the people suspicious of me since I'm sure that I would be sticking around the both of them from now on. On second thought... A small persuasion in my favor isn't harmful to anyone, right? I opened my right hand and a small ball of dark smoke manifested in the middle of my palm. { Enthralling Words: Mildos and Lydia } I whispered on to the dark smoke and it split into two before flying towards the direction where I could see Lydia helping Mildos get up. They couldn't see the small ball of smoke enter their foreheads before I decided to speak up. "Sorry." Is the only thing that I said. Their eyes dilated simultaneously as they looked at me and it disappeared as fast as it came. "Just make sure it won't happen again." Mildos replied, snarling at me but not as aggressively as before. I was pleasantly surprised by the almost-soft tone. "Please think before you act, both of you!" Lydia huffed, her look switching between me and Mildos like a mother reprimanding her children. "Of course." I nodded at her, trying not to smile in victory. Yeah, I could probably get used to this.
