Maya “You’re awake!” I cried, my feet carrying me forward as I rushed to his bedside. I climbed carefully into the small space beside him on the bed and gently placed my arms around his neck in a hug, being extra careful to avoid the tubes connected to his nose and the IV in his arms. I buried my head against his chest. “You’re awake,” my voice softened as tears spilled down my cheeks. “I’m so happy. I thought I wasn’t going to see you wake up. I had to rush down here as soon as I could.” I felt his hand come up to rest on my head, his fingers sinking gently into my hair as he brushed it softly. “Yes, honey,” he said weakly. “I am.” Suddenly remembering that I needed to alert the doctor immediately, I pulled away and rushed out of the room, practically running down the hospital hall
