Endless Love

The Ultimatum

Emily sat nervously in her living room, staring at her phone. She had been debating for days whether or not to reach out to her parents again. The last time she had spoken to them, it had ended in tears and anger. But she missed them, missed their love and support. She took a deep breath and dialed their number.

After a few rings, her mother answered. "Hello?" she said, her voice cold and distant.

"Hi, Mom, it's me, Emily," she said, her voice shaking slightly.

There was a long pause before her mother responded. "What do you want, Emily?" she asked, her tone sharp and unforgiving.

"I...I just wanted to talk," Emily said, her heart pounding in her chest. "I miss you both, and I want us to try and work things out."

There was another pause before her mother spoke again. "Emily, we've been through this before. We can't accept your relationship with Alex. If you want us in your life, you need to divorce him."

Emily felt like she had been punched in the gut. She had hoped that her parents would come around, that they would accept her for who she was. But now they were giving her an ultimatum, forcing her to choose between them and the man she loved.

Tears welled up in her eyes as she struggled to find the right words. "Mom, please...I love Alex. He makes me happy. I can't just give him up."

Her mother's voice softened slightly. "Emily, we love you. But we can't condone your relationship with him. It goes against everything we believe in."

Emily felt a surge of anger and frustration. How could her parents be so closed-minded, so unwilling to accept her for who she was? She took a deep breath and tried to keep her tone convincing as she spoke.

"Mom, Dad, I understand that you may not agree with my choices. But I hope that you can see past that and still love me for who I am. I want you in my life, but I can't give up Alex. Please, try to understand."

There was a long silence on the other end of the line before her mother spoke again. "Emily, we need time to think about this. We'll let you know our decision soon."

Emily hung up the phone, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside her. She knew that her parents' ultimatum had put her in a difficult position, but she also knew that she couldn't give up on her relationship with Alex.
