The forest was eerily silent as I sat beside Baird, his unconscious form stretched out on the cold, damp ground. His breathing was shallow, and the wound on his side was bleeding profusely. I had done what I could with my limited knowledge of first aid, but it was clear that he needed more than just makeshift bandages. My thoughts raced as I looked at the blood-soaked cloth strips that were once my shirt. I needed herbs, and I needed them fast.
Leaving him alone felt like a betrayal, but staying here and doing nothing would be worse. Baird, a member of the Storm Pack, had saved me from the rogues. The least I could do was try to save his life in return.
