CHAPTER 2

Dead, as in dead I was pretty sure I would have passed out if I hadn't done that already like thrice in the past hour. But still the feeling I had was like being blasted by that ball of fire a hundred times over, I didn't even even hear the doctor comforting me, after a lot of grieving and no tears (yeah don't act surprised its not my fault I can't cry even if I wanted to something about my tear duct been defective) I tossed and turned on the hospital bed till morning, I only stood up in the morning when a nurse brought me fresh clothes to change into, apparently I was diagnosed fit and healthy to go home. Minutes later I was in the doctor's office about to check myself out of the hospital, but he delayed me saying there was someone waiting to see me, at that moment the door opened and a man walked in, my first thought was why would vin diesel want to see me, but this man was not vin diesel but he had his physique broad chest, big arms ripping with muscles, bald head and a facial expression between seriousness and anger. He took his sit beside me and said I'm detective James friend (now I'm like there's no way this man has any friends cause the man and his name don't go along in anyway) but I kept my mouth shut, I'm the detective handling your grandma's homicide case, wait homicide you mean she was killed in cold blood, like murdered yes replied the detective didn't you know, he raised one eyebrow looking at the doctor like you didn't tell him, he never asked replied the doctor somehow reading the detectives expression. It never dawned on me that my granny had been killed, I felt like dying again, surprisingly detective friend patted me on the back assuring me that he would make sure the killer was arrested,h_how did she die I asked, she was stabbed repeatedly in the gut and her neck. I felt like throwing up which kind of maniac guts an old woman. The killer was not a thief that we know of, continued the detective, how do you know that I asked, well because he left a message said the detective saying this he pulled out a piece of paper on it was the message that read: "Roses are red, violets are blue, your grandma just died and so will you. And I will be there to watch you draw your last breath Miles Hathaway, at the end of it all it will be mine". I could barely control my rage now (now now let's not be hasty I know you must think I'm supposed to be scared but the i***t just gutted my grandma and now he was threatening me) I tried to calm down everything's gonna be alright i keep repeating in my mind, the detective and the doctor just stare at me waiting for what I had to say, so what now I said, now you can't go home as the killer already knows where you live so, "no" I said shocking the two men in the room what do you mean no replied the detective, I said no because the killer doesn't expect me to go home as he knows that the police would want to move me to a safer place and then he would make his move I replied calmly. The look on the detective's face was a look of surprise but he quickly regains his composure and says we haven't thought of that but still we can't let you go back home unprotected. He won't be alone replies a new voice, we all turn around to the newcomer's voice and my lips stretch into a smile, standing at the door ever gracious was one of my favourite persons in the world Ben Diaz, he was an associate of my grandma but he was still young probably in his early forty's, he pops up from time to time but about a year ago he stopped visiting. And who might you be the detective asks, my name is Ben Diaz an associate of miles grandmother and also legal guardian to the boy I have every document of proof here he says waving a folder, the detective glances through it and nods so if you are his guardian can you please tell him he can't return home its just to dangerous says the detective. The boy has made his decision and he is right the killer knows who he is and therefore will expect you to move him to a more secure facility and we don't know when he would strike, but bringing him home we can predict that the killer will come to the house and then we can catch him, he replies calmly. OK I'm beginning to like Ben more and more, the detective sighed in defeat but at least let's offer him some protection he offers, I and Ben share a quick look before he accepts the condition, well that settles it now can you get out of my office and Miles here are your prescriptions, you can pick them up at the pharmacy says the doctor, I actually hadn't heard him talk all this while, I merely nod and leave with Ben, a few guards were waiting for us at the hospital's entrance to shield us away from the reporters as we step out I was almost overwhelmed but for the guards I would have been trampled by the number of reporters outside the hospital, I might have forgotten to mention that my grandma was a big name in this town, she owned a chain of companies dealing in almost everything ranging from food to oil to the technological sector but she was a software engineer by profession. We were led to a bunch of waiting cars and soon enough we were on our way home, Ben kept giving me a pitiful look but I didn't pay him any attention my eyes were fierce, I just kept remembering that night when the ball of fire slam into I could have sworn I saw something melting into my body nah I'm just seeing things or maybe......, the opening of doors brought me back to reality and I could see we were now in front of the mansion, and with that a feeling of dread filled me the house looked and felt like a haunted house, it was the only house in this expanse of land, the front door opened and a man stepped out, I sighed at the sight of Elijah our Butler looking as professional as always, welcome home Mr Hathaway.
