Vivianatook a breath and stared at herself in the mirror. She turned left, she turnedright, she stared straight forward and she groaned. She didn't know what it wasbut something about being back home made her look exactly like a mobster'sdaughter. She had worn this dress once before at school, and now it lookeddecidedly different.  Viviana had always been the type to dress up a bit,at least that's what the other girls called it. She'd always enjoyed wearingnice clothes, heels and dresses, handbags that matched and she'd always taken aspecial interest in keeping her hair styled. She could see why the girls wouldtease her so much now. She must have stuck out like a sore thumb back at school Shedecided to keep her hair out of her face, thinking it made her look much todramatic. Viviana had clipped her long dark hair up on top of her headcarelessly. Even that casual hairstyle managed to look glamorous at the moment. It didn’t seem to matter what she did, she looked so different from the girlshe’d seen everyday over the last few years. She frowned but tried not todwell. She was sure it was only her imagination. "Viviana, we're leaving!" Viviana rolled her eyes ather father's voice. She would be more than happy to say 'go on without me' butthat would only get her in trouble. No, Viviana moved quickly, slipping on pairof white heels and with a sigh reminded herself this was only temporary. shewould find her way out. ---- Matteo sat lazily in his father's study, looking out onto thegarden where guests were arriving. He wasn't too eager to get out there, already convinced it was going to be a boring evening. Not to get him wrong, Matteo loved la famiglia, he felt a deepsense of responsibility towards them, but he knew them all too well, new faceswere rare. He was thinking about his conversation with his father earlier thisweek. The Don had been patient with his son, recognizing in him the makings ofthe next great Don, but Matteo was 29 now- a man- and he should begin forminghis own family.  Matteo and his father had ended the conversation agreeingthat Matteo would start looking seriously. It was easier said than done. He had met all the daughtersbefore and it had been a while since a new member had been properly received. As the son of the Don, he could have any girl he pleased, but to pick oneforever? That was the tough question. Matteo stood up and put his fingers to the blinds as he watchedhis guests arrive. This was rude of him, he should be out there greeting themand had just about made up his mind to make his way until he caught sight of avision in a white dress. For a moment, he squinted, trying to recognize her but shedidn't ring any bells. He noted the long shapely legs, perfectly dressed in apair of stilettos, just the way he liked. The dress clung to her figure, starting just below her mid-thigh and silhouetting her perfect curves. And justabove the curve of her breasts was a long, thin neck with the most fascinatingchin and mouth he had ever seen. His mouth twisted into a smile, wondering who this new girl was.Matteo stepped away from the window and adjusted his tie as he walked out ofhis father's study and out into the Garden. ---- "This way dear."  Viviana and her sisters waitedbehind her father and their husbands, as was customary, while they greeted theDon. After a few seconds, they stepped forward and greeted his wife. "Viviana Aliotta, you have grown." the Don said, looking her over from head to toe in an appreciative manner. Viviana bowed herhead slightly and then looked up at him as he took her hand, his eyes neverleaving her face as he kissed it. "It's a pleasure to be here, in your home. It is just as Iremember." She answered, trying to sound calm. "My home is your home, Viviana, you are welcome to comevisit us at any time." He said, gesturing to his house with his hand in atheatrical fashion. "And where is the elusive Matteo? We are all eager tocongratulate him on his birthday." Viviana's father said. "I'm right here." A voice said from beyond thedoors.  Viviana, however; didn't look up, she was now staring down at theground, wondering where she could get a drink. "I'm so sorry to be late." Matteo said, as he greetedMr. Aliotta and his daughters. Matteo released Fausta's hand and turned to thevision he’d admired from the window, who stood next to his father quietly. "I don't believe we've met." He said, wanting to beproperly introduced to her. Viviana lifted her face to look at Matteo and for amoment she was still, caught completely off-guard. She would have opened hermouth to speak, but there was something impressive about him, somethingoverwhelming. She caught his eyes and they flickered. She gulped. "Matteo, of course you have. This is my youngest daughter,Viviana, who was away at school." Viviana heard her father say.  Shenoted that Matteo, like his father, was glancing at her from head to toe. With a gracious nod, she finally managed to speak, her mind finally clearing asshe managed to look away. "It's nice to see you again, Matteo." She said, extending her hand. Matteo took it and brought it gently to his lips. "It is indeed." He said, a giant smirk forming overhis face. Viviana wondered for a moment what he was thinking but a sudden burstof music snapped her out of the momentary trance. Viviana turned and noted a small band in the garden and amakeshift dance floor, when she would have retreated her hand from Matteo's heinstead pulled her a step closer to him. "Wonderful, the music has started. Viviana, let'sdance?" He said, pulling her in the opposite direction.  It wasreally more of a command than a question. When she might have pulled back, Vivianafelt her sister take her clutch from her hand, breaking her concentration. Shelooked around at the twinkling lights and tried to maintain her balance as shewas whisked away. Matteo wrapped his arm tightly around Viviana's waist and tookher hand in his. Viviana felt him pull her against him closer than she thoughtpossible and nervously placed her hand on his shoulder as they danced.  Her mind was frantic- what in the world had just happened? Nevermind- it was her stupidity at fault. She couldn't believe it when she saw him,he was beyond handsome. Matteo was much taller than her, broad shouldered andathletically built. His suit him to perfection and those eyes that seemed topenetrate every last inch of her were enough to make her forget how to breathe. If she hadn't been so bowled over by his appearance, she wouldhave been able to walk away and spend the evening sulking as she intended, nothere with him firmly holding her in place. "When did you get back?" Matteo's words were simpleand innocent, but the sound of his voice was like being told a sin. "Yesterday." Viviana answered, trying not to show howflustered she was at his proximity. "Really? You must be tired." He said, not taking hiseyes off her face. Viviana looked around at the other guests, avoiding hissight. "I am actually, just exhausted." She said, hoping shecould guilt him into letting her sit. Matteo's hand squeezed lightly around herwaist, making her look at him. "You should relax and try to enjoy yourself." He said, smirking now that she looked right at him. Viviana stared at his perfect eyesand was aware she was treading on dangerous territory. She was dancing with theDon's son, which meant she had to be very tactful about refusing his advances. "I am. " she said nervously, attempting to drop hergaze but the music picked up a bit and he pressed his cheek against hers. Shealmost jumped at the surprise of it. Well, at least it was clear what he wasdoing but she needed to get away asap. She'd been around pushy guys before, but never like this one.Never this handsome and never a Don's son.  She felt his hand moving upand down the length of her back, always stopping just above her hips.  Sheshivered involuntarily and hoped he hadn't noticed but a soft chuckle told herhe did.  Frantically, because she couldn't stand the proximity any longer,Viviana searched for an excuse to end the dance. "You have such lovely hair, it smells... delicious."He whispered into her ear. It was too much to stand and people were beginningto stare. Then suddenly, the music stopped and she took her chance. "Thank you for the dance." She said quickly and rushedaway before he could protest. Matteo stared after her for a few minutes, not moving from thedance floor. She was much better up close- and the scent of her... it wasamazing. With a smile, Matteo walked up to his father who was about to makesome sort of speech. Matteo watched Viviana sit next to her sister from the corner ofhis eye. How was it possible that a woman that sensual and yet that innocentexisted? She had to be innocent of course, she was a daughter of the famigliaand the way she reacted to his attention told him more than enough. Viviana tried not to look in the direction of Matteo, aware thathe was staring at her. This was no good. The last thing she wanted was to getthe attention of the Don's son. He was known to be a playboy and she had nodesire to be another plaything for the family she despised. "He seems quite taken with you." Fausta said butViviana laughed. That man was looking to play but Viviana was not interested ingames.
