23. Tiana For the first time in years, breakfast felt peaceful. Not polite like it usually is, not obligatory, not one of those strained meals where silence sat between two people pretending everything was fine… peaceful. I sat at the kitchen island with a cup of coffee warming my hands while Roman stood at the stove making pancakes. Someone was actually making breakfast for me. The sight alone felt absurd. "You're staring." I smiled into my cup. "You look ridiculous." He glanced over his shoulder. "Because I'm making breakfast?" "Because I didn't know you knew how." His expression turned offended. "I can cook." "Barely." "I can." I laughed. The sound escaped before I could stop it and Roman froze dramatically. My smile widened. "What?" "Nothing." Suspicion immediately
