The following day McCall sat in the ME’s office with Tina and described the recent goings-on over a cup of coffee bought from the store around the corner. McCall often came down before the day officially started to shoot the breeze if they had the chance unless somebody inconsiderately died early and ruined the whole ‘ease into the day’ thing. Their careers had put them through a lot together, and a powerful bond of friendship and respect had developed. They had fallen into a natural routine of getting together in the morning or maybe sometimes after work, just to talk about nothing, as long as it wasn’t work.
