The mid-Manhattan library was bustling with crowds of people. Students rushed silently here and there in search of project information; others sat alone and read. A figure passed unnoticed, books and folders in hand; it made its way to the archive vault, then sought out a dimly lit alcove housing a vacant computer. Sliding into the seat, the stranger began to type, feeding names into the database, seeking out any information on the orphanage where the murdered women had lived. The computer monitor flashed up photographs and extracts from newspaper articles.
