CHAPTER FORTY Back at her desk, McCall flicked through the mountains of files cluttering her desk concerning the three murders, including all the forensic and ME reports, but she still drew a blank. Finally, slamming shut the file she was reading, she stood up and turned to the information boards set up in front of her desk. One board was entirely taken up with a street map of the city, laminated so it could be written or drawn on repeatedly. Standing back, she considered the pins placed to denote the sites at which each victim was found. She perched on the back edge of her desk and peered closely at each pin, connecting line, and street name. What was she missing, she wondered? Tony and Tooms wandered up to her.
