Julian Ashford stopped dead. He drove straight to the apartment. Vivi's bedroom door was standing open, and everything that had been hers was gone. The vanity was bare. The clothing rack beneath the ceiling beam held nothing. The room had been emptied as cleanly as if she'd never been there. Something kept dropping in his chest, lower and lower, as it finally caught up with him, the image of Vivi walking out of the Ashford Estate with her suitcase. He hadn't believed she meant it.
