CHAPTER 13:
How about I give you 500$ as engagement gift and you give me your guild as your dowry?
IT'S NOT like Daniel didn't get used to this girl's crazy outbursts, limited cursing vocabulary and tendency to beat people up with her violin, but no matter how prepared he was - suddenly being asked to marry her with no following information is enough for him to get a heart attack. Actually, if his grandfather was here when she spoke those words, Daniel was certain that he'd already be on his way to the hospital to save his life.
"Say what?"
So he asked just be sure - he began to suspect his ears once again. In any case, he already had problems with it, so hearing imaginary things wouldn't surprise him that much anymore.
"Let's get married!" Violet didn't even look at him as she went to check what needs to be done in order to marry Daniel's character. She even removed him from her list of enemies and sent a friend request before going to the shop to check how much would a wedding ring cost.
The price almost made her choke on her saliva - 8999 diamonds! Diamond was a game currency one can get only by investing money or selling equipment, really hard to get. Hundred diamonds was equal to 1$, so the price of this thing was almost 90$, ah!
Fudge, might as well not marry!
Isn't there some cheaper ring?
She looked through the shop, but to her disappointment, even the cheapest one cost 15$, this game was such a rip off!
"Ah, I'm so poor," she sighed, "I can't even afford a single ring, how should I pay for the wedding? This game is really too much, why the heck did I start playing it? I knew that it would make me go broke one day, but I can't even marry without money? Tsk, I should send a ticket to the game company. Too much, really too much!"
Thanks to her limitless complaints, Daniel finally realized that the marriage she spoke of was about the game. He stood up to return the first aid box to the bathroom before coming back and logging into the game as well. Just like Violet, he noticed the same debuff from avoiding the guild war and couldn't help but curse that incompetent vice-leader of his. What the hell were you doing by starting a guild war? Didn't you hear that I was fighting here, how could I possibly accept the call to the battlefield?
Really, having a piggish teammate is worse than an enemy that knows you too well!
"So, you wanna or don't wanna?" She asked again and he sighed. With this debuff and loss in levels, having a marriage partner was the best option he could get. What does it mean to have a marriage partner? EXP is shared and increased. When you kill something together, you get 2x experience. It's twice the amount! Bed already be in level 1000 if he had played with this girl from the very start!
"Let's do it," in ant case, it's just a game. Not like he didn't consider that in past, he just now found a convenient partner.
"But I'm poor... Ah, whatever, I'll eat a loss this time. You fed me for the past few days. Let's get married then go PK that vulgar swindler!" She huffed and he rolled his eyes.
Back in the days, he believed that the owner of Snowflake was using the same curse words all over again just to annoy him, but now that he knew the truth it really left him with a bitter taste.
"It's fine, I'll pay," the one to propose is the one to buy the ring. Other party doesn't have to do anything at all.
"How can I let you do it, you shouldn't waste money..." For a second she forgot that he was that wastrel RRVACH who spent money like air he breathed. It made her choke on words she wanted to say, so she chose to change point and secretly buy the ring or something once she topped up.
"Ah, accept my friend request a d delete me from your enemy list. Buy what should we do about that guy, should we switch and harass him or should we join forces? Oh, a guild union doesn't sound that bad, I think that the game company will finally have a moment to breathe peacefully without us fighting daily now," she continued to ramble as he accepted her friend request.
Switch and harass, as its name said, was a famous term in this toxic game. Basically, a single guild could accept 10 guild wars daily, and Ascordia and MARVEL usually fought just once unless they had nothing better to do because fighting for 10 hours was too much to them who had to level up and do other daily quests. Switch and harass was meant for two guilds attacking one unfortunate guild. One guild would attack for an hour, then other would take over for the next hour and the the first guild would continue and so on.
War lasted an hour or less.
The other guild could naturally reject war, but so what? It won't stop two guild from harassing their members either way, the guild leader just needs to mark the third guild is their "enemy" and system would automatically let them kill only members of that guild. The only problem would be that their names falling to the red zone from PK-ing a lot - something pardoned in a guild war - and then easily be hunted down. One must say that red players are quite unfortunate.
If they die, they lose 20% of health bar, not 10% like normally, they have to re-spawn using diamond or wait for 10 minutes to normally re-spawn which would make them lose way too much.
But, since it's two guilds, then it's fine. One guild would attack, the other would then protect those that fell into red zone until they got to drink potions for lowering PK value - which usually lasted 15 minutes max.
It's the worst possible harassment and the guilds involved would become sworn enemies from that day onward, so many avoided that approach, and chose the other one.
That is, guild alliance. Two guild would cooperate with each other under their two leaders and could wage war on other guild. The other guild would naturally either call it's own allied guilds and retaliate or fight alone, but alliance war is something used to win other guilds turf, so it couldn't be avoided.
You don't wanna fight? Fine, well take over your territory, thank you very much.
And losing a territory is a huge no-no for big guilds. They get daily payments in other currency depending on the size of their territories, so they can't afford to lose it else they'll drop in rankings.
After seeing the system's congratulations for becoming friends, Daniel immediately went to shop, bought that 8999 diamond ring and went to the NPC responsible for issuing a marriage quest. Scrolling through the friend list, he found Snowflake and immediate sent message asking to get married, all while she continued to plot how to bully the other guy.
"How about we just make him disband his guild now? There are a lot of good players other guilds would accept, and they would be better off without this leader that often seeks death," he mused as he saw messages arrive once after another in his guild and private chats.
[Leader, are you alive?]
[Dude, r u rly alive???]
[Leader did you get the Snowflake?]
[Leader, don't tell me that you actually killed her!]
[Leader, do we help you bury the corpse?]
[Leader, let me send you a link to a good site.]
[It has a lot info on how to hide a corpse]
It was that kind of messages he got and he couldn't help but smile. Violet wasn't wrong, it really is like he's leading bunch of thugs, even offering to help him hide a corpse. As expected, they were all to excited to hear rumors that they waited from the system to get fixed despite not knowing how long would it last.
He was about to think on what to answer when he heard exclamation from the girl next to him. He tilted his head and saw that she was looking at his proposal and smiled.
"Just accept it, I already paid for the ring," she gulped and pressed [accept] with a nod.
Well, since I'm already there...
"It's too expensive, you should've used the one that cost 15$," she mumbled and sighed as she saw her own guild members spam her chat with similar messages like Daniel's.
Really, what a bunch of crazy people...
It was at that moment that system let out the announcement of two's engagement and the world chat had another rare moment of absolute silence.
[Did the system... Malfunction?]
The first message was out by Daniel's vice leader, good old Silvermoon12 who's too lazy to change that name.
[Boss, what did he use to threaten you!]
...Followed by loyal devotee Eggman, who treated Snowflake like goddess. Whatever happens, his goddess was always right. If she started a fight, it's other's party fault for looking like he needed a beating. Yeah, it was that terrible.
[WTF is the world ending!]
[GM, GM, this game's broadcast is broken!]
[>>> Fck this chat (sent 16 times)]
[Oi, oi, oi this isn't fun!]
[Is it April's fool yet?]
[Is this the legendary...]
[...argument leading to deeper relationship?]
[Now that you mention that...]
[Quite possible]
[I always said that they're good couple]
[Shut up, don't speak ill of my Goddess!]
[How can our God have such a terrible taste!?]
[Your entire family has terrible taste]
In the end, the two guilds were on the verge of fighting once again and Daniel sighed and chose to say something before it got too late.
[SHUT UP YOU ALL!!!]
He never knew that caps lock were this amazing.
[Come to the wedding who wants, PvP who you wish later]
[But after this, we're waging war on those sky peasants!]
SkyKing guild immediately dropped to the lowest level of peasants in his eyes.
[If you aren't there, then go and suffer debuff]
[Ascordia is our ally now!]
"Say, how about I give you 200$ as engagement gift?" He asked, but Violet was too busy to pay him attention as she curiously began to type in the world chat as well as she nodded, hearing only number two hundred and nothing else. He probably meant 200 diamonds or something.
Frowning, he felt that it was too little so he went and topped up 500$ worth of diamond, out them all in a single red pack, then sent them all to Violet. One could send red packs filled with diamonds to whomever they wanted, even sending it to world chat in free-for-all type, so violet didn't think much and continued to type.
[That's right, ya all!]
[From now on, our two guilds are bossom friends]
[Forget about everything until now]
[And go PvP if you can't in arena]
[But tonight and tomorrow and the next day]
[We're waging war on that stupid squirel]
IPlaySquirel was SkyKing's guild leader, and also the person who laughed the most when the two didn't appear at last guild war, his nick was quite easy to remember too.
[We aren't stopping until they disband. We welcome everyone]
[Seriously, Ur guild leader sucks. Come to Ascordia]
[Also, drop by to the wedding, it's 8999 one!]
The more expensive engagement ring, the better wedding ceremony is and there are a lot gifts for guest who participate in the wedding. But 8999 diamond wedding is so rare that pretty much everyone flock to it when they see one.
Satisfied, she finally tapped on that red pack Daniel sent, but when she saw 500 000 diamonds drop out of it, she was so shocked she forgot to breathe. What is this? What the f**k? A BUG?
She hesitantly raised her head to look at Daniel who only shrugged with his shoulders. Opening her mouth few times, she wanted to say something, but failed every time.
"Ah, that, just accept it. It's your engagement gift," in any case, Daniel had money more than anything else, so it was no big deal to him. She almost spat out blood when she heard him before realizing something important.
"I've no money to give you appropriate dowry then!"
"Dowry?" He raised his eyebrows before letting a mysterious smile, "How about you give me your guild as a dowry then?"
"..."
"I didn't happen to use the violin to hit you yet, did I?" She already opened the red pack, so she could only make new one and send it back to him, but the other one didn't even bat an eye at it, much less accept it, so she was stuck with those 500 000 diamonds. She really couldn't accept that money on top of everything he did for her.
That sly swindler, he did that on purpose!
Don't wanna accept them back? Heh, wait till you go to sleep and I steal your phone and we'll see if you accept it or not.
Unfortunately, her action would later lead to daily stealing of phones and constant transfer of that red back between the two for months to come until the game company got bored of them and decided to ban their transaction once for all, making Violet finally resign herself to accept the money.
But that's the story for another time.
