CHAPTER 02: THE STRINGS SYNCHRONIZING WITH THE SOUND OF METAL DANCING ACROSS THE ICE DO MAKE A COMBINATION THAT MOVES ONE'S SOUL TODAY WAS certainly not Violet's day. The last time she was in a big city was perhaps some fifteen years ago - she was given to her grandma to take care of her since she had a rather sickly body constitution. She can't say that she didn't like her life there, her grandmother was the best person in the world to her. Violet was quite shy child, she didn't have much friends - any, at all actually, so she didn't mint being isolated over there. She didn't expect much, but when she heard her grandmother playing a violin in that little house, Violet fell in love with for the first time. Ever since then, her grandma taught her how to play one and her illness didn't seem so loathsome anymore. At one point, she was even grateful that she had it - for she would probably never have known the beauty of violin strings had it not been for it. Every day, she would earnestly practice violin, she could even play it for entire day without getting tired at all. She still remembers how proud her grandmother was when she finished playing her first piece, when she wrote one herself and when she sent her off. "Violet, you've grown," she said, "There is nothing left for me to teach you." Violet was both proud and sad at that moment. "So you have to leave now." She felt betrayed. "I can only help you spread your wings, but you're the one that's supposed to make them carry you across the skies." Confused. "If you stay with me, you will ruin those wings." Dejected. "And it will break my heart to know that I'm the one responsible for extinguishing your bright flame." You won't do it! It will keep burning on - but Violet didn't know how to put those thoughts into words. "You have a talent that would make me a sinner if I kept you hidden from the world." It is fine! I only need you to listen to my music. "I pray that you will one day save someone else's heart like mine, Violet." She didn't understand. She couldn't. "So it is my true wish to see you on the proper stage, with countless people finding joy in your music." Then she realized. Her grandmother wasn't rejecting her. Her grandmother also had a wish, she never asked anything of Violet before. So Violet steeled her heart and for the first time in fifteen years chose to leave the place she called home. Then her grandmother gave her a letter and instructed her to deliver it to the place that can make her talent bloom. Whenever Violet felt hesitant and sad, she remembered that her grandmother was counting on her. "But what is with this situation!?" Violet wanted to cry, but no tears came out. She followed her grandma's instructions, alright. She came to the Westellton Music University her grandma told her about. She met the person she was supposed to meet, but when the time to hand over the letter came, she realized that it was no longer in her bag. She tried to explain the situation and mentioned her grandma's name, but they told her that they didn't know who she was so they threw her out and warned to not come closer. So when she was alone and dejected, roaming the long streets of New York and about to call her grandma and tell her what happened, she was attacked and her phone destroyed. After such unfortunate day, she naturally didn't hesitate to attack the person - but when she realized that the person simply collided with her and that he was blind, a social outcast like her had no other choice but to run away! She read a lot of books, so she isn't really ignorant. In her head she could also talk to the president of state calmly, but when faced with real life situation, she can only chicken up and run. BUT. WHY. THE. HELL. WAS. THE. BLIND. GUY. NOW. RUNNING. AROUND. BETTER. THAN. AN. OLYMPIC. ATHLETE. AFTER. ME. WITH. OBVIOUSLY. A. PERFECT. SIGHT?! A girl like would never let herself be caught, so she hid and pulled out her phone to call the police (forgetting that it was broken), when she almost coughed blood from anger seeing the device in her hand. This isn't my phone! If there's a God up there, he was doing this on purpose! So she braved herself and decided to stalk the guy instead and somehow get her phone back, but damn did the guy run through half of the New York looking for her, almost making her die on his trail! But then he finally stopped running as he returned to the place they collided, she stealthily hid in vicinity as she watched him enter a huge building, or stadium - she wasn't sure. His face was incredibly cold as he clutched his head and cursed under his breath, she didn't know what was wrong with him. But then she read the sign outside of the place: " Northern Light Ice Rink" She was confused, what's with the odd name? "No, wait! That's not what I should be thinking of now! This is the ice rink!" Luckily, she had some basic knowledge on what an ice rink was, even though she's never been there before. "Think Violet, what do people do on the ice rinks? They skate! And when they skate what do they leave behind? Their possessions, all of them!" She suddenly grinned, "Which means; hold on, my phone - I'm coming to your rescue!" As to why she didn't just go and talk with the guy, even she doesn't know herself. Social anxiety was scary, alright. Now, with a phone and Google maps, finding her way in this ice rink would've been simple, but since she didn't have it and to make matters worse - there wasn't a single living person in here, she was utterly lost. In the end it took her almost half an hour until she managed to find the signs and follow them to the ice rink successfully. "Once I get the person in charge of this place, we'll need to have a serious talk about life," she mused before slowly opening the doors to the skate ring and slowly sneaked in. She was grateful that the lights were completely turned off except for the center of the enormous hall filled with ice. She crouched down and hid behind the seats just in case, carefully tucking her violin case on her lap. It was the first violin her grandma gave to her and also the only one she's been using for the last fifteen years. It was sent to be repaired over six times, and that's just without having to count broken strings. Violet cared way too much for it, so she sent it for check ups even though there was nothing wrong with it. Sighing, she was about to raise her head when she heard noise, making her freeze in place like a corpse. She waited for a moment before hearing the same noise of something hitting the floor again, but it seems like it came from bellow. After making sure that the source wasn't close to her, she bravely raised her head, but then she felt air being knocked out of her lungs. Did I die? Down there, on that cold skating rink, a single figure could be seen moving gracefully, like he was the king of ice. His body exuded pressure and confidence that drew people in as he skated, Violet couldn't remove her eyes off him. An angel. To her, he seemed like an angel that has descended from Heavens, his matchless beauty and those cold grey that seemed to have no emotions, yet spoke of vicissitudes of life truly didn't look like something a human can have. Violet even felt that she would have no more regrets in her life even if she were to die right now. He suddenly, jumped making her place her hands over her mouth to not scream. He'll fall! She panicked, yet the man casually landed on the ice and continued to skate like that jump was as simple as breathing to him. She realized at that moment, that the previous noise she heard came from his skates falling on ice. But now, that sound was no longer a bothersome noise. As she watched him move on the ice, making one silhouette after another, she had a feeling like that man's body composed a brand new music on this ring of cold and silence. A music so loud and deep that it made her heart beat faster. At that moment, she had a single thought on her mind: Ah, I want to play this music! So she followed her instincts. There were many things she was cautious about, but music wasn't one of them. If she could play, she would. If she wanted to play, she will! Disregarding her previous dear, Violet took out a white violin from her case - truly a special masterpiece she named "Sugar fairy" - after the first piece she ever played on it. She naturally could have chosen a simpler song to play at the beginning, but after fairy tales her grandma told her - and she would follow the story with the song of violin, Violet decided that it was it. And now, she took her long companion again, gently caressing the strings before she stood up and headed closer to the ice rink, yet the man didn't seem to have noticed her, immersed in the world of his own creation. Her carefree attitude was gone, replaced with the eyes of a hawk carefully watching it's prey. She put the violin on her shoulder and placed the bow across the strings, but didn't move. The man in front of her possesses special magic, and every movement of his was like a different note - she didn't want to miss out on even a single one. Daniel still haven't noticed her - he's been running for a while and got tired, so his head began to hurt. Since he was close to the skating rink, he decided to come inside - ice podium was always able to calm him down. So he out his skates on, cleared his hand and started to skate. He wasn't trying to do anything special nor tiresome, just by being on ice would his heart calm and the noise would stop. The pirouettes appeared in his mind one after another, he didn't hesitate to make one. Salchow. Triple. Then triple toe loop. At that moment, he jumped. NOW! Yet at the same moment, violet made her move. The friction between the bow and strings created first notes, each of them corresponded to the moves of that man. Her hand at the ends of strings slightly trembled before her fingers switched to various accords, she closely followed Daniel. He, on the other hand, didn't have enough rotation for the triple toe loop, making it turn in a double one - but he still managed to straighten his pose and not fall. He frowned, for a moment, he seemed to have heard a musi- The tender music filled his earbuds and he relaxed. No way, right. It's just my imagination. He mocked himself before continuing where he left at, carelessly skating. Yet to his surprise, that music followed close after like a shadow. That made him be even more certain. This choreography was something he created on the spot, there's no way that there existed music that could follow after it, so it was probably all in his head. So he continued to skate unaware that a certain person really did manage to make the impossible possible. His cold and stoic face showed a rare smile nevertheless. He could never bring this choreography to perfection since he didn't have a music to follow nor ability to listen to it, yet tonight, he truly did feel like he was back to his old days. So he dared to do what he couldn't for quite a while. He went wild! His movements became sharper, and so did music, the carelessness of his body was replaced by professional moves as the smile on his face free larger. His skating was wild and unpredictable, in one moment he would be moving slowly like a saint walking on a surface of the river, when in next he'd be like a wild dragon soaring the skies. Yet, nonetheless, the music continued to follow like a shadow saying: "You can't escape. We are one!" The more he skated, the more he got drenched in his own sweat, but he didn't notice. He could still hear that music, he doesn't know for how long has it accompanied him, but if felt that if he could skate for eternity, the violin would also play on forever. It was at that moment that he suddenly caught a glimpse of a figure with a violin. Thinking that he hallucinated because of the ecstasy, he turned his head to if again and his eyes almost bulged out of his sockets when he saw that loathsome woman from earlier. His body froze, but his skates continued to carry him forward and the other person lowered her violin as her eyes widened as well. He didn't have the time to realize how the music stopped with her putting down the violin. It was at that moment that she panicked and screamed something to him, but he realized that he couldn't hear her and instead tried to read from her lips. "Eh? Cat f**k? Car truck? Careful?" He mumbled to himself trying to understand what she said yet when he realized what was he supposed to beware of, his face froze. But it was too late. He already slammed into the ice wall separating the ice rink and audience seats.
