"Could you please elaborate more on what you just said?" Suzanne asked, dumbfounded.
"The Elmsworth family and Ravensfield family have bonds woven deep by time. So it was only natural that our parents related well, and they had us betrothed to each other," Scarlett said in explanation.
"Not that I care about that douchebag Wirtz, but where does this leave him?" Prudence inquired.
"Has he even called you yet? I suggest you first heal rather than stress about a man who is most likely to be surrounded by women at the moment," Suzanne said. Suzanne had always detested Wirtz from the first time she laid eyes on him. No wonder she eagerly wanted him out of the picture. Thane wasn't really a good person either, but at least he wasn't a two-timer like that dog Wirtz.
"I really do not know," Scarlett said, doubting her emotions towards Wirtz.
"Anything else we need to know?" Prudence asked.
"I will be staying with Thane. I can't guarantee we shall see each other more often."
"Why does it feel like you are leaving us, crossing to the other side? Girl, you are scaring us. Is he really that uptight with staying indoors?" Suzanne asked, concerned. Prudence shook her head in Scarlett's favour. She had lived with her cousin to know very well that he was rigidly austere and morally strict.
"I also need to lie low for the time being, because I just escaped an accident, and people are looking for me everywhere," Scarlett said in her justification. The women talked some more before they bid her farewell.
**************
Scarlett sat with her arms crossed. She stayed silent throughout the journey, never trying to break the ice between her and the deadly serious man across her. Passing city lights bled warmly through the tinted glass, gently curving her sharp profile. She sat there letting her train of thought take her for a ride. She wondered where her father was, where her boyfriend was. Hadn't he heard of what had happened to her, or did he not care anymore? They had not been on good terms of late. She wondered what she would tell him once she got to meet him. 'I am getting married.' Even thinking of the phrase, she felt it made no sense.
With a deep breath, she decided not to let Wirtz Smirkinoff rent-free in her mind. She carelessly laid her head on the headrest and whispered, "He had to show off with a limousine," then she fell asleep.
