To those who survived the internal battles within themselves. PROLOGUE Being called something you are not doesn’t hurt. Even people believing the false label without doubt also doesn’t hurt. No, not at all. The word ‘hurt’ would be an understatement. Words like destroyed, obliterated, shattered, crushed, or annihilated would better fit the feeling. They cut deeper than anyone thinks they do. It creates the deadliest wounds that take years to heal. So, to ask if it hurts. No, it doesn’t. A heavy rain shower disrupted the calm night. No one expected the sudden downpour since the sun was shining all day. Even in the heavy rain, a girl stands still without anything to shield herself from the rain. People hurried to find shelter, ignoring her as she remained unfazed by the cold rain. The drops of water mixed the tears streaming down her face. Her hands clenched into fists as she remembered the ridicule she experienced. Her heart ached from the humiliation, pain, and suffering she endured. She told the truth, but the people looking at her only saw a liar. Her heart throbbed in unison with her head. The coldness of the rain helped soothe her throbbing head. But the memories she wanted to disappear remain. I want to disappear, too. Overwhelmed by thoughts, she takes a walk in the hopes of clearing her head despite the storm going on. She wanders aimlessly, lost in her world. When she came to herself, she was at the outskirts of Ashford. Dark, cold, and surrounded by woods. As she stands waiting, her eyes fixed on the wet pavement. The sound of an incoming car made her glance up, tearing her gaze from the ground. Her heart pounded with relief as the car approached. Without a second thought, she stepped right into the road. The car showed no signs of stopping. As her body came in contact with the hood, the impact knocked the wind out of her. The driver, shocked by what happened, got out of his vehicle to check on her. She was lying on the wet road, blood pooling around her. But, despite the injury, her body still felt warm. He checked her pulse, and a sense of relief washed when he felt it beating. He called for an ambulance the moment he grabbed hold of his phone to save her.
