Loathing

I get off the plane and look around at a beautiful lush forest landscape. I stretched and pulled my blazer shut, in an attempt to cover up my scent, knowing it wouldn't do anything. Brandon gave me a nod before him and his human partner walked off. That's when I saw someone walking towards me. She was average height and build but stern looking. She…SHE? s**t! I had nearly forgotten it was the heat season. These idiots paired me with a female human!? They can mistake my scent for hers and she is defenseless. She made it to me. “Jamie? Are you ready?” I looked at her before letting out a sigh. “I suppose. Stay close to me at all times.” She gestured to her gun and I laughed. “Yeah you might as well be throwing pebbles at them.” “Excuse me?” I roll my eyes and raise my chin. You'll never kill them with a gun. If you don't believe me… shoot me. We are at a government airstrip after all.” Without hesitation she fired one off at my face, her gun pointing at a sharp upward angle. The bullet grazed me barely and I hissed in pain. I pressed my hand over my bleeding eyebrow and gave her a deranged glare as she hummed. “Silver composite bullets. I think I'll be just fine, Detective Hallows.” I snarled at the sound of my father's name and turned, starting the long walk. “Let's go.” Hearing nothing following me I turned to see her looking at me rather impatiently as if I was the one just standing there. I gave her an irritated glare and she cleared her throat. “Pardon my forwardness, detective Hallows, but I am not going with you until the black forest before debriefing. Now, would you care for a cup of coffee?” We went into a building that was set up for the personnel at the airstrip. She went to the cabinets and I sat at a table, rubbing my head. I could tell this was going to be f*****g difficult. I sighed as she sat a cup of coffee on the table. It was already doctored up with creamer and sugar. I picked it up, expecting to gag. But I was surprised when it was perfect. She sat across from me sipping her coffee and eyed me. I felt I was being rude so I cleared my throat lightly. “Uh. Thank you for the coffee. It is perfect.” She smirked. “You looked like a ‘heavy on everything’ person.” it went silent for a moment, neither one of us liking the situation our jobs had out us in. I took another drink and she spoke up. Detective Hallows… I understand it's the heat season for …your kind.” I put my cup down and glared at her. Something about the sharpness in her tone made my skin tighten. “My kind? You mean werewolves? Yes it is and you, ma'am… are a walking casualty.” I finished speaking with a quiet growl and her eyes narrowed. “Yes and what do I do about that?” I shrugged. “Stay close and listen I suppose.” She scoffed. “I don't need a puppy to guard me, Ms. Hallows.” I snarled at her words. If she felt that way then fine. I leaned forward, glaring directly into her eyes. “Thanks for the coffee. Get up we have a long walk.”
