Orsa I waited until the palace was silent. I sprung up from my bed, where I had lain with my clothes still on. I grabbed a travel cloak and the two daggers that had been given to me by Kai. I would take nothing else from these people who had given me so much. I would shift once I had scaled the city walls. I’d just need to be wary of the guards and use the pouring rain to my advantage. I opened the doors to my chamber and glanced from left to right. Not a soul in sight. The only sound was the heavy rain that thudded against the marble dome of the palace. I was barefoot, choosing to forgo my sandals so I could move in silence. I moved quickly, gliding through the corridors and sticking to the shadows. As I neared the stairs, my heart stilled as I heard a sound and I stopped abruptly.
