The tension between Selene and Kaden had never been thicker. It was as if time itself had suspended, waiting for the moment when everything would unravel. Her heart pounded in her chest as she stood before him, steady yet burning with purpose. Kaden, the Alpha who had once cast her aside, the man who had been her mate, yet was also her greatest tormentor. The last time their eyes met like this had been years ago, and so much had changed since then. Kaden stood a few feet away, his figure looming tall and strong. His eyes were cold, but there was something beneath them—a hint of doubt that seemed to flicker every time his gaze met hers. Selene could feel it. He had regrets. He had guilt. She could see it in the tightness of his jaw, the way his hand clenched by his side. But she wasn’t here to comfort him. She was here for vengeance. Tiberius stood by her side, his protective stance unwavering. The boy had grown so much since she first fled with him all those years ago. He was strong, fierce, and, most importantly, loyal. His amber eyes glinted with the same intensity she had once seen in Kaden’s eyes. But now, it was different. Now, Kaden was no longer the Alpha who controlled everything. Now, it was her son who stood beside her, a testament to everything Kaden had wronged. Kaden’s eyes moved slowly between them, his expression shifting. There was confusion, disbelief, and a deep sense of unease. He had never expected this, never expected her to return so powerful, so unyielding. “You’ve come to challenge me?” Kaden’s voice was a low growl, heavy with uncertainty. “You’ve come to take my place?” Selene didn’t flinch at his words. There was no longer any fear left inside her, not for him, not for anything. She had endured too much, suffered through too many dark nights to be afraid of the man who had discarded her. “I’ve come to reclaim what’s mine,” she replied, her voice steady. “And I’m taking everything you ever took from me.” The words cut through the air, sharp and direct. She didn’t need to explain herself further. He knew. She knew. They both knew the weight of what had been lost and what was at stake. The years that had passed had not been kind to her. They had been filled with pain, hardship, and loneliness. But they had also given her the strength she needed to stand here now, facing Kaden, demanding everything he had stolen from her. Kaden’s lips pressed into a thin line, his gaze narrowing. “You think you can just waltz in here, into my pack, and take what’s mine? After all this time?” Selene stood her ground. “You’ve already taken everything from me, Kaden,” she said coldly. “And now I’m here to take it all back.” Tiberius, ever the protector, stepped forward slightly, his posture strong and defiant. His eyes locked on Kaden, fierce and unyielding. “You don’t get to speak to her like that. You don’t get to treat us like we’re nothing. You made your choice when you rejected us.” The room was charged with energy now. Selene could feel the tension vibrating in the space between them. The wolves in Kaden’s pack were not far behind, and she could sense their presence, their loyalty to their Alpha. But there was no fear in her. The power she had cultivated over the years, the bond between her and Tiberius, was stronger than anything Kaden could ever command. Kaden’s eyes flicked to Tiberius, a moment of hesitation passing through him. “I never wanted to do this,” he muttered under his breath, more to himself than to Selene. “I never wanted to hurt you.” Selene’s heart twisted for just a moment. Was this real regret? Was this genuine sorrow for all he had done to her? Or was it just another manipulation, another way for him to pull her back into his world of lies? She wouldn’t allow herself to be swayed by the false sincerity in his voice. “You didn’t want to hurt me, Kaden?” Selene repeated, her voice dripping with contempt. “You rejected me. You threw me away when I needed you the most. You made your choice, and now you will face the consequences.” Her words were like a slap, and Kaden flinched as if they physically stung. His eyes darted to the ground for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure. “I didn’t know what I was rejecting,” he said, his voice shaky, filled with an emotion Selene couldn’t quite decipher. “Don’t make excuses for your mistakes,” she said, her voice now hard, unforgiving. “You hurt me. You hurt him.” She nodded toward Tiberius. “And now we’re here to make it right.” Kaden’s gaze moved to Tiberius, the realization dawning on him. The boy before him was his son—the one he had never acknowledged, the one he had turned away without a second thought. Selene could see the recognition flicker in Kaden’s eyes, followed by a mixture of regret and fear. “You think you can just come back and take my pack?” Kaden’s voice was growing more desperate. “I’ve spent years building this. I’ve fought for everything I have.” “You don’t get to decide what happens now,” Tiberius growled, stepping forward, his wolf beginning to surface. The tension in the room was palpable. His eyes were fierce, his gaze locked on Kaden with a determination that matched Selene’s. He was ready to fight, to prove his worth, to reclaim what was rightfully his. Kaden’s shoulders tensed, and for a moment, Selene saw the man she had once known—a man who was driven, proud, and determined. But that man was long gone. He was just a shadow now, a man who had lost everything because of his own arrogance. “You want to fight me, Kaden?” Selene’s voice was almost a whisper, but it was filled with an undeniable edge. “You want to prove yourself worthy to lead this pack? Fine. But you’ll have to earn it.” Kaden’s breath hitched. He had been the Alpha once, the leader of everything, and now here he was, standing before the woman he had rejected, the son he had abandoned, and the pack that no longer respected him. He was lost. She could see it in his eyes. He didn’t know how to regain control. Tiberius took another step forward, his eyes unwavering. “This is where it ends,” he said, his voice carrying the weight of their collective pain. “We end this now. We take back what’s ours.” Kaden didn’t move. His gaze shifted between Selene and Tiberius, the conflict within him becoming more apparent. This wasn’t just about the pack anymore—it was about everything he had lost, everything he had done wrong. A distant howl pierced the air, signaling the arrival of the pack. The wolves were gathering, ready for whatever was to come. Selene’s pulse quickened, but she didn’t falter. She was ready. This was the moment. This was the test. Kaden let out a long breath, as if conceding something within himself. He took a step back, his expression hardening. “If this is what it takes,” he muttered, “then I’ll prove I’m still the Alpha.” But Selene didn’t believe him—not yet. He had to show her. He had to show them both that he was worthy of everything he had cast aside. Tiberius turned to her, his eyes steady. “We’ll finish this. Together.” And as they stood there, the past, present, and future collided in a storm of uncertainty. Kaden had one last chance to prove himself, and Selene was prepared to make him pay for every second of pain he had caused her. The night had just begun.
