CHAPTER 3
BRING HIM OVER
Alex flinched. He lowered his head and digested every word he heard from the woman lying on the sick bed.“Wow! That's, uh...,”
“Well, I'll say that's an interesting proposal, Sonia,” Alex commented casually.
Seeing his expression, Sonia knew her proposal wouldn't make headway. So, she put on a serious face and retorted, “I'm actually serious about this, Alex. You need a wife apparently, and I need a husband. Plus, you saved a life. So you see, our lives are bonded in a way no one could understand.”
“Yeah, you're right.” Alex nodded. His face flushed with a smile.
He bent over with his innocent eyes fixed on hers and whispered, “Count me in, Sonia Sinclair.”
Hours flew by, and Sonia got discharged from the hospital.
Whenever she thought of her belongings that were still stuck in Beldon's house, she flinched and took a deep breath, feeling as if a heavy stone was pressing down on her, making it impossible for her to breathe.
If there was a better option, she could have just abandoned those belongings there. The last person she'll want to set her eyes on was her ex-boyfriend.
“Alex, please, you'll wait for me at the next junction. I wouldn't want to get you involved in any of my personal problems,” Sonia suggested as they drove near the Hart's mansion.
Like a helpless street beggar, she stood and knocked at the gate that used to be her home.
“What do you want, Sonia? Have you come to beg Beldon to take you back?” Clara asked as she opened the door and stood in the doorway.
Sonia huffed to calm her emotions down. She was not ready to get into any arguments with a brainless being like her sister.
“I don't have time for all your dramas, Clara. Can you please just get out of the way and let me get my stuff out?”
“Huh, you're lucky. I still consider you as my sister; if not, you wouldn't have seen anything to pick from this house!” Clara said with a glare.
“Plus, I'm giving you only ten minutes to leave this house. You should have known that Beldon wouldn't give you a passing glance if not for the sake of your mother's company,” she added.
Without hesitation, Sonia moved straight to the room she once shared with Beldon. Tears streamed down her face as she took out her clothes from the wardrobe and folded them into the bigger box. While still arranging her belongings, she noticed something that got her stunned for a while.
After some seconds of thought, she turned with an angry gaze and sighted Clara, who was leaning on the door and watching her.
“Clara, where is my small box? I know I left it here before the engagement party!” Sonia asked, her tone cold and meant.
“Oh, that! The room was too choked up for me and Beldon, so I decided to give the box out, including some of your shoes, to the orphanage,” Clara said reluctantly.
“What! That box contains some of my documents! Clara,” Sonia yelled and clenched her fist, feeling as if her heart was brutally stabbed with a knife, but Clara watched without a hint of remorse for her actions.
“You'll surely regret this, Clara,” Sonia said firmly and left with tear-filled eyes.
“How did it go? Hope nobody gave my wife trouble? Alex asked, his romantic tone laced with concern.
“Everything went well. Just that Clara tried to get on my nerves. But I can handle that,” she said with an assuring tone.
Sonia remained silent as they drove to her house. She was battling with a mix of emotions on how best to focus on building herself to forget the past rather than seeking revenge.
The moment they alighted at the enormous gate of the first duplex in the Nest Housing estate, Sonia felt a wave of fresh life blowing over her.
It still looked unbelievable to her that she was back there without the one person she had dreamt of living together with.
She turned to look at Alex, who was almost running out of time to meet up at his workplace. She couldn't fail to put on a smile, feeling a sense of gratitude towards him.
“Thank you, Alex. Here's the spare key to the apartment. So, we'll catch up later,” she said, taking out a bunch of keys from her bag to give him.Alex held the keys, his expression looking surprised rather than grateful.Sonia raised a brow.
“Is there any…,” before she could finish saying the statement, Alex's eyes narrowed, and his lips almost crashed with hers.
“Hey,” she said, quickly averting her face to prevent him from kissing her.
“What are you trying to do, Alex?”
“Trying to kiss my wife, of course. Is there something wrong with me trying to be a good husband?” He asked with a smile on his face. His tone was simple yet intriguing.
Clara smiled. The image of her doing that with Beldon flashed in my face.
For a moment, she thought she needed to heal before indulging in any romantic acts, but then she remembered that she was the one who first opted for marriage.
“Silly you; I don't want you to be late to work. So just be patient; we still have a whole year to ourselves,” Sonia opined before he left for work.
“Wow! He has the same name as the CEO of the Garret's corporation. That's weird,” she muttered to herself after having a glance at their marriage certificate.
As soon as she waved Alex goodbye and stepped into her mansion, her phone buzzed with a call. It was her father, Mr. Sinclair Tristan.
“What do you want, Dad?” She asked as soon as she placed the phone on her ears.
“Did you break up with Beldon? You i***t! I need you to come home now!” Her father declared, his tone cold and indifferent.
Without wasting time, she quickly hung her handbag on her shoulders and navigated her way to the Sinclair's mansion.
“Okay, here I am,” she said as soon as she stepped into the mansion.
“You i***t! What have you done?” Lena stormed forth and welcomed her with a hot slap.
“You know how much we need Beldon's money and resources; how dare you call off the engagement, Sonia?” Her father scolded her.
Sonia clenched her fist in anger, trying hard to restrain herself from venting her anger on Lena.
“Beldon abandoned me to die, Father. And you still want me to marry that bastard? Tell me, am I your daughter or a cash cow?”
“I know that you'll never cease to be an i***t! How dare you speak to your father that way? You shameless thing!” Lena reprimanded.
“Shameless? Oh, funny how you use that word, Ma'am Lena,” Sonia replied back.
“My mother started the Sinclair Corp. And in two months after her death, you married my dad and brought this,” she said, pointing fingers at Clara.
“You slept on her bed and still went ahead to spend her hard-earned money, you disgusting leech!” Sonia scoffed, sparing Lena not an atom of respect.
“Shut your mouth, b***h!” Clara warned, raising her hands to give Sonia a slap, but Sonia prevented the hands from reaching her face.
“I'm not yet done! All of you have four days to get your stuff out of the Sinclair's corp. I'm taking over my mother's company by next week. You're not exempted from this, Dad.” Sonia declared.
“That's impossible! It is stated clearly in your mother's will that unless you get married, you won't become the CEO,” her father cut in.Sonia shook her head with a smile.
“About that subject, here; I'm married now,” she said and tossed her hand into her side bag, taking out her marriage certificate.
“Let me see that!” Clara said, grabbing the certificate from Sonia's hands.
“This looks fake!” she said in a loud voice. Her father and Lena flinched in shock.
“This must be a fake, Dad. Tell me, who would marry a woman who just got dumped by her fiancé in public?” Clara retorted.
“Fine. If you said you're maHurry, then I demand to see him right now! Or else, I'll tie you up and take you to Beldon myself,” her father declared.
