Chapter 59

1882 Words

Scarlett I think Zane is leading me to Death’s house. The forest around is way too quiet. There are no birds. Or animals. Just nature watching us. Zane is three steps ahead, not even bothering to look back. Which is smart, honestly. Because while I might be afraid, I’m also angry. And if the i***t looked at me, he would see the way I keep flexing my fingers like I’m imagining them around his throat. I f*****g hate Zane for what he did in the maze. There is also something about the way he moves that sets my nerves on fire. The guy is too confident and too silent, like he is walking through a memory instead of the real world. “I’m not going to attack you,” he says casually, like we are out for a stroll and not marching into what definitely smells like betrayal. “Shame,” I mutter.
