As I watch him walk away, an emptiness feels me, and my heart is left wanting. It feels like my heart is breaking into a million pieces. I am pretty sure I had this look of shock upon my face.
What in the world just happened? With all these emotions filling my mind, my eyes begin to water. I had so many unanswered questions.
Just as I was leaving the dance floor, I see Soph approaching.
"What is wrong?" she asked.
"You know, I don't know." I feel lost like I'm missing a part of me or something; it is hard to explain. I have never had these feelings towards anyone before. The way he looked at me would make anyone melt. When he would touch me, these weird sensations would flood my skin and body. I know this all sounds crazy, but I feel like we are connected somehow."
"Do you want to leave?"
"Maybe here in a few, how about we graze the auction tables and see if there is anything we want to bid on, and then leave."
As we perused the tables, a vacation package caught my eye. The flyer features the mountains with the heading "Seven Nights Under the Stars." Spend seven glorious nights under the stars, camping, horseback riding, rock climbing, and more! Adventure is in no short supply! Come and enjoy the outdoors at Bearmoor Resort.
I noticed nobody had placed a bid, so I submitted one on my phone and kept walking. Nothing else really jumped out at me. I could use some time away from the office. God knows that I never take off from work and have some time to burn.
"Soph, did you find anything that you like?"
"I found this "Make it a Night in" basket. It has Cracker Jacks, Twizzlers Red Licorice, Chips A Hoy Cookies, M & M's, Rice Krispies Treats, two Movie Theatre Microwave Popcorn bags, two Old Time Classic Cokes, two twenty-five dollar gift certificates to Antonio's Pizza and sss Prime, a bottle of wine, lavender bath bombs, a silk robe, and some massage oil. All placed neatly into a popcorn pale." You know me a homebody." She smiled.
"The best thing about the auction is everything is online, so we can leave and keep an eye on our bids" Are you ready to go, Soph?
"Let me finish this drink, and then we can head out," she replied.
"I am going to the ladies' room, and then I will meet you at the entrance."
I use the restroom, wash my hands, walk out, and feel that someone is watching me. I look around until my eyes meet these intense red eyes across the room; a vision flashed before me, and I saw myself chained to a wall, and this man doing unspeakable things to me. I regain myself, not skipping a beat, I walk towards Sophie. I am trying my hardest not to make eye contact again. Those eyes freaked me out. I am sure they were just contacts, but I was not sticking around to find out.
"Are you alright?"
"No, let's get out of here now!" I said with an imploring tone and frightened look on my face.
"What is going on?"
"Tell you in the limo, let's go." I grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the door. I stopped at the valet station.
"Limo for Mikado, please."
"Sure thing, miss," a young short and stalky brown-headed man said.
In a few moments, our driver pulled up.
"Good evening, Brad, would you please take us both back to my place."
"It will be my pleasure," Brad stated.
We slid onto the seats, and I slump down, letting out a profound sigh of relief.
"Now, will you please tell me what in the world is going on?
"You know when you have this awkward feeling that someone is watching you? I felt that as I walked out of the bathroom. So, I started to look around the room until my eyes met these creepy red eyes. When he noticed I saw him, he gave me this evil grin, and he licked his lips. Soph, a vision flashed before me, and I saw myself chained to a wall and this man doing unspeakable things to me. It freaked me out, and I did not want to stick around to see what would happen."
"It is going to be ok," she said as she takes my hand.
I begin to cry, "I have never experienced anything like that before, I sobbed. It was like I was watching my future. Will you stay with me tonight? I don't want to be alone.
I looked at Soph with tears running down my face.
"You know I am here for you." She wiped the tears from my face and embraced me in a hug.
The drive back to my place did not take long, thank goodness. I tipped Brad and thanked him for his service. We walk into my house, and I immediately lock the door and set my alarm. Soph gave me a concerned look.
"I am not taking any chances."
I turn on a few lights and make my way to my room; I grab some clothes and walk to the guest bedroom. I check my supplies in the bathroom to make sure she has everything she needs.
"Soph, I placed some clothes on the bed. Everything else you might need is in the bathroom, toothpaste, toothbrush, body wash, etc.
"I need to relax a bit after this bizarre evening I have had. I am going to go draw a bath and check on my auction item; if you need anything, let me know," I said as I walk back down the hallway.
Walking past my ornate antique mirror, I stop and gaze upon myself; I remove my mask and notice that I am pale. Damm, I look I have seen a ghost. I need to unwind and forget all about that incident at the ball.
I enter my room, place the mask on my vanity, slip off my gown, not caring that I left it on the floor, and walked into my bathroom. I turn on my tub's facet and grab a glass container that sits upon my marble countertop and twist open the top. I breathe in the scent of Eucalyptus and Spearmint and pour it into my bath. As the tub fills, I turn to my sink, grab my face foam cleanser and begin to wash away what little make-up I have on, and then apply some moisturizer.
I take off my bra and slip off my thong as it pools at my feet and step out. I pull up my hair into a messy bun, then step into the tub, and sink into the water. From the heat of the water and the oils from the salt, my body begins to relax. I close my eyes, and I begin to drift away.
I reminisce about Matias and our steamy dance and the intense connection that we shared. As I dive deeper into my mind, it's like I can feel him touching me again as we dance in my dream, our bodies moving as one. The way he commands me to move, our hips moving in rhythm with the music, he begins to kiss me passionately on my crook of my neck, my soft spot driving me crazy with lust. The electrify tingles increasing with ever touch. He spins me around, looking deep into my eyes, leans down and - knock, knock, I hear this, and it brings me out of my mind.
"Leilani, are you ok? You have been in the bathroom for almost two hours."
"Sorry, Soph, I must have dozed off. I will be out in a few."
As reality hit me once more, my heart felt heavy, and I was confused. A few moments passed as I sat there deep in my thoughts before taking my towel and stepping out of the tub. I apply my favorite lotion to my body, and I walk to my bedroom and enter my closet looking for my nighty. I pull out a rose-colored silk cami and matching short bottoms. I get dressed and exit my room.
"Soph, were are you?"
"I'm in the kitchen," she replied.
I walked down the hallway, turned the corner, entered my dining room, and made my way into my kitchen. I see Soph blending a mixture that resembled pancake batter. I walk towards the Frig and take out some bacon.
"Cannot have pancakes with our bacon," I said, smiling at Soph.
"You know that right."
I take out a frying pan, place it on the stove, and turn on the heat. I wait for the pan to heat up before placing the strips of bacon onto the pan. I sprinkle on some pepper and let bacon cook.
Soph joins me on the left side; she begins to cook the pancakes using my square griddle pan. The aroma in the kitchen is delightful. As the food finishes cooking, set the table adorning it plates, napkins, forks and knives, milk, butter, and syrup.
We bring the food to the table and begin to eat. I turn on some light jazz in the background, and we sit in silence for a few moments. Our phones buzz, we grab them. We both received an alert from the auction app.
I checked my item and noticed I was now not the only one bidding. I thought better go big or go home and placed the highest amount I was willing to pay for this trip. The auction only had a few seconds left. I take a bite of my bacon and wait. By the time I had finished chewing my food, our phones had buzzed again.
"Well, Soph, this is it! I said, excitedly as we open our notification from the auction.
"Congratulations, you have one the "Make it a Night in" basket," Sophie read in a squeaky voice. She looked at me with an ecstatic look on her face.
"Well, the suspense is killing me, did you win?"
I looked at the notification and slumped into my chair. No, I replied as I pushed the food around on my plate. Man, can this night get any worse, I thought. I was looking forward to getting away.
"Thank you for making the pancakes. I am hitting the hay. I am exhausted and need this day to end. I hope tomorrow is a better one and all. I will see you in the morning, Soph. I hug her, take my dishes, rinse them off, place them into the dishwasher, and walk out of the room towards my living room from the kitchen. I stopped and looked at my last family portrait taken a few days before my tenth birthday.
We looked so happy as we took the picture in a field of sunflowers. My mother and I wore black dresses. Hers was a floor-length maxi dress that was a Cascading Ruffle Off Shoulder Short Sleeve Flowy Church Casual Maxi Dress, and mine was a Casual Plain Simple T-Shirt, Loose Dress that stopped at my knees. Dad was wearing a black polo and jeans.
I walk away remembering that tomorrow is my birthday. I hope I find the same kind of love my parents had for each other.
I go to my nightstand, plug in my phone. I turn towards a small round table near my window that features a Starlight Symphony Howling White Wolf Electric Essential Oil Burner Aroma Lamp and put a few drops of lavender oil into the lamp and turn it on and go to my bathroom. I brush and floss my teeth and let my hair down.
I pull the shades down, allowing the darkness to over-take my room. I crawl into my empty king-size bed and draw the covers over me. I close my eyes, I breathe in the lavender, allowing it to ease my mind, as I drift off to sleep.
