I stared down at her little blonde ringlets that just began forming, and wrapped my finger in one reveling in the feeling of her hair sliding against my skin. The pink rose tones pushing forward to the top layers of her cheeks perfectly illuminated her eyes of gold and made them shine like stars in the night sky. She slept gently wrapped in a light pink blanket that reminded me of simpler times and took me back to the place I long to be. Pressing my lips to her forehead, the warmth of her skin envelops my lips before I feel the wetness that begins pooling around them.
Hesitantly, I pull my lips from her head and allow myself to shed a few more tears before wiping them and reminding myself this is the right decision. Placing my finger inside her little palm, I smile as she instantly closes her fingers around mine.
Notcing faint rays of sunshine beginning to pour in, I tear my gaze away from my sleeping angel to the roaring sound of water that seemed so faint when lost in thought. I gaze through the wall of water separating us from the crushing reality that has become ours and shiver as the light begins to flutter in illuminating the walls around us... forcing me to get up and face the pain I would be dealing with.
I stand in front of the white door with gold trimming running up the side of it. I try my best to ignore the sinking feeling in my chest, making it increasingly harder to suck a breath into my seemingly closed lungs. I look down at her one last time before kissing her head. The moment I touch her I have an overwhelming feeling to just run , turn around and run with her. Take her somewhere she will never be found...but I know this isn’t something that is promised and I have to do my best to protect her. That’s my job isn’t it?
I didn’t have too much longer to feel guilty and doubt my decision as I heard an alarm beginning to go off upstairs. I peek down at the white piece of paper sticking out from under the pink memory filled blanket. “ Iridessa Fable” it read. 'My bringer of hope' I thought to myself. I rang the door bell and ran down the brown steps , every step making my legs feel more weighed down than the last. “ I love you, and we will meet again... I promise” I whispered to her as I ran down the road.
