CHAPTER 2 - Beyond surprised

Alice’s Point Of View “What the hell!” I screamed in shock, pinching myself. Attempting to wake up from the nightmare before my eyes. Both Claire and Nick gasped as they turned towards me, hurriedly trying to cover themselves up. “This was the work you had to do?” I asked Nick in disbelief, feeling my heart shatter into a million pieces. “Baby let me explain,” Nick said quietly, putting on his boxer briefs. “What do you have to explain? What do you want to tell me?” I asked angrily, feeling tears well up in my eyes. “I….we….” Nick whispered anxiously, approaching me and stretching out his hands to touch me. Moving out of the way immediately, I turned my attention towards Claire. “This is your friendship? Sleeping with my boyfriend?” I asked in disbelief, glaring at her. “He was mine first, you stole him!” Claire said angrily, rolling her eyes at me. I blinked in utter shock, unable to believe the words that left Claire's lips. I couldn't deal with all of this, I didn't want to. I hadn't gotten over the news of my mom's seventh marriage and now this. It was too much, I couldn't think straight so I ran, as fast as my legs could take me. “Baby please wait!” Nick screamed anxious, as I bolted out of Claire's house. I didn't stop; but ran even faster and entered my car. I locked the door to make sure they couldn't reach me. My body began to shake, my vision became blurry, I was hyperventilating and I couldn't breathe or speak for a few minutes. “Baby, please let me explain, I promise it's not what it looks like,” Nick said desperately, trying to open my car door. I looked at him from my window glass, he was wearing nothing but boxer briefs running his hand through his hair. Claire stood at a distance, wrapped in a bed sheet calling Nick to come back into the room. “My keys,” I whispered quietly, looking for my car key that seemed to have disappeared. Nick kept on speaking, mumbling words I wasn't hearing anymore. Starting my car I speed away, with no direction. I couldn't believe my best friend and partner would do such a thing to me. “Why!!!” I screamed in frustration, as I blared my car horn. I was drunk and knew I shouldn't be on the road but I needed to get as far away from them as possible. My eyes were filled with tears, blurring my vision from everything else. I struggled to see the direction I was driving in so I decided to clean my eyes with the sleeves of my dress. A blinding light shone straight in my eyes and I could see a truck approaching me directly. “s**t!” I said anxiously, biting my lip as I tried to reroute my car and take it off the road. Finally succeeding with that and breathing a sigh of relief I tried to get back on the road only to come face to face with another big car and this time I couldn't escape. “You crazy lady!” a man screamed angrily, coming down from his truck and approaching me. My head had hit the steering wheel and something dripped from my forehead, I touched it to check, it was blood. I quickly searched for my food and speed-dialed my mom. “Hi Alice,” my mom said in a strange tone, immediately she picked up the call. “H…hello mum, I had an accident, please help me,” I whispered shakily, as I struggled to breathe. “Max, stop…please,” my mom giggled, ignoring everything I had said. “Mom…” I managed to say, calling her attention back to our conversation. “Alice, I am kind of busy right now, let's talk later,” she said hurriedly, gasping and giggling. “Mom, I had an accident,” I said again, feeling like air was leaving my lungs. “I'm sure it's nothing serious, call Claire or your boyfriend Nick, I need to go now,” my mom said hastily, ending the call immediately. Tears rolled down my face as I struggled to believe what I had just heard. I called my mother again, wanting to explain the seriousness of the situation. “What is it, Alice?” My mom asked in a harsh tone, anger filling her voice. “I…I am dying Mom,” I managed to whisper, my hands shaking as I held the phone. “Stop being dramatic Alice,” she said bluntly, seeming irritated by my persistence. “Please Mom,” I pleaded desperately, holding on to the last bit of hope I had left. The other end of the phone was silent for a while and after a while, I heard sounds of people making out. It was very obvious that my mom was with her newfound fianceé and she was willing to let me die because she wanted to be with him. “Mom,” I whispered softly, the sting of rejection glaring me in the face as I ended the call myself. My only friend was sleeping with my boyfriend and now my own mother had abandoned me to die. Ever since my father died my mother had always put her needs above mine and ignored me for her newfound lovers but I never thought she would go this far. “Open the door!” A bunch of men screamed, making several attempts to open my car door with force. It was their car I had hit and they were enraged. I wanted to beg the men to let me go but it was no use, they had gone to bring tools to open my door. “So this is it,” I whispered softly, taking a deep breath. From the expressions on these men's faces, it was obvious that they had ill intentions but I had no one to save me. “Let them come,” I said weakly, with a smile spread across my face. My door had begun to give way and I knew it wouldn't be long until they had their way. Losing my will to live or fight, I closed my eyes letting myself fall into the darkness that had been creeping on me all along. I began to regain consciousness, sun rays shining on my face as I opened my eyes and found myself in a strange room.
