With the way you overwork yourselves, you are going to start having ugly wrinkles", Mervick said to Aiden as he made his way to sit on one of the sofas..
Aiden raised his head and looked at him, shook his head and focused back on his laptop.
"What are you doing here, Mevrick?", Aiden asked, still looking at his laptop.
"Uhm, can't I come pay my uncle a visit?", Mervick said, crossing his legs and spreading out his hands on the sofa.
"Who even let you in? This is not a place for unserious beings like you, I'm sure you need money again", Aiden said in an arrogant yet soft tone.
"C'mon Uncle, don't be like that, I just came to pay you a visit", mervick said laughing
"Great, now you have seen me ,now leave", Aiden responded not giving in to his lies.
"I do need some money though,I'm trying to invest in a business, and it's going to––", Mervick said before Aiden cut him short.
"You are really lucky you are my nephew, I would have asked my bodyguards to beat you up to poop since there's really no atom of sense left in that brain of yours", Aiden replied this time looking at him straight in the eyes to show how irritated he was.
Mervick smirked and said "you wish you could, but you can't uncle, I mean you wouldn't want your company to go down right?".
"You are not getting any more money from me, now get out of my office! The only person I'm responsible for is your mother, since you have decided to be a burden to her," Aiden continued in a harsh tone.
Mervick scoffed, stood up from his sofa as tension hung in the air, went to his office desk, sat on the chair, spread out his two legs on his table and said
"I think is time for them to know what happened to lucas —", mervick muttered
"The last money I sent to you, what did you use it for? Drugs! Drugs Mervick, did you know the strings I had to pull to get you from going to jail last week?" Aiden interfered in a cold tone and fury in his eyes as he stood up and removed his legs on his table.
"Like father like son.", Aiden continued
"Don't forget I also have a copy of the slush funds, you know what will happen to you and your company if I release those documents to the public right?" Mervick responded with great confidence in his voice
Maybe you're also forgetting something young man, I didn't do any of these things. Your father is the main culprit, not me and you will ...."
Mervick smirked loudly and interrupted "Yeah.. yeah.. I will rot in jail, and you know I don't care and the public doesn't care either who the culprit is, but you see…. the almighty Kensington Holdings will crumble like an earthquake! boom!boom!!" He laughed and described all he said with his hands.
"Your father must be really proud right now, you are gradually turning like him ", Aiden said, sitting back on his seat and giving him money.
Mervick clenched his hands in a tight fist as anger fuelled through his body, the words of his uncle echoed in his ears, he collected the money, opened the door in anger and left…
Natasha arrived at the hospital and made a deposit for her mother's transplant and it began. While she waited at the lobby with her aunt for news from the doctor, her aunt said to her caressing her long dark hair from the back.
"How did you get the money for the surgery?"Ms. Vanessa asked, with genuine concern and worry showing on her face.
"Don't worry aunt, I took a loan, I'll pay back ', Natasha lied to avoid explaining where she got the money from.
How will she even say such a thing to her aunt, that she got married overnight to a stranger and gave out two years of her life to stay with her man she has obviously defrauded.
"Oh Tasha! You have done so much for your mother. I hope she gets better, let's keep praying for her", Ms. Vanessa said, hugging Natasha tightly.
Her aunt looked at her fingers to find out the ring was gone,
"Where's your ring?''her aunt asked in surprise, because she knew Natasha never goes out with the ring ever since Maverick proposed to her two months ago.
"I and Mervick are done aunt, I gave him back his ring", Natasha said in a cold tone as she reflects on her encounter with him at the walkway today.
When? What happened? " Her aunt asked in shock.
"Aunt, I really don't want to talk about him right now, let's just focus on mom", Natasha replied as she looked away trying to avoid her aunt's gaze so she won't see the anger in her eyes.
"Oh my baby", her aunt said, hugging again, even more tightly, patting her on her back while Natasha clenched her hands tightly as she remembered how Mervick was not remorseful about what he did to her.
Natasha had no more tears left to cry, she knew she didn't have to waste anymore tears on that scumbag, he doesn't deserve it,more than anything she was bent on having revenge for everything he had done to her, for ruining her life.
The naive, and reserved Natasha had died, the one who everyone took for granted and walked all over. They were all going to witness a version of her they had never seen before.
After two hours of waiting anxiously, the doctor emerged from the surgery room and approached Natasha and her aunt. "Mrs. King's surgery was a success," the doctor announced with a smile.
A beacon of hope hung in the air as Natasha's tensed shoulders relaxed, her fears and burdens lifted. She let out a long sigh of relief.
As tears welled up in her eyes, a smile slowly crept onto Natasha's face. She embraced her aunt, overcome with emotion.
"Thank you so much, doctor," she expressed with tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Can we go see her now?" She asked, her impatience showing.
"Not yet, but you can when she is transferred to her room," the doctor replied, making his way to his office.
As Natasha waited for her mother to be transferred to her room, a wave of emotions washed over her. She was grateful to know that her mother's surgery was successful as that was all she had hoped for. But at the same time, she couldn't help but reflect on the documents she had signed earlier today and the actions she had taken to obtain the necessary funds for her mother's surgery. But it was too late for regrets now; the deed had been done, and she had to face the consequences head-on.
After an hour of waiting, she was finally able to see her mother, and seeing that she was recovering gave her the strength she needed for the new turn her life was about to take.
Natasha couldn't bring herself to reveal her actions to anyone as she didn't want to burden them with worry, she would bear the weight of her choices alone.
