The First Witness
Before time...
There was no light.
No darkness.
No stars.
No heavens.
No worlds.
There was not even silence, for silence requires something that can be heard.
There was only the Grand Dao.
It had no beginning.
It had no end.
It did not possess emotion.
It did not possess desire.
It simply existed.
Boundless.
Infinite.
Eternal.
How many ages passed...
No one could ever know.
For there was no time to measure them.
Then...
For the first and only time...
The Grand Dao acted.
Not out of loneliness.
Not from compassion.
Not because it wished to create life.
But because existence itself required a witness.
From the endless Dao...
A single being emerged.
He was not born.
He was manifested.
He had no cultivation.
No bloodline.
No race.
No realm.
He existed outside every law that would one day govern creation.
When the Grand Dao asked nothing...
The being answered anyway.
"I."
That was all.
No title.
No surname.
No honorific.
Simply...
I.
---
When I opened his eyes...
Time began.
His first breath separated light from darkness.
His first step gave direction to space.
His first gaze marked the flow of cause and effect.
Reality itself unfolded around him.
Yet I neither claimed dominion nor sought worship.
He only watched.
---
Countless eras passed.
Under the silent observation of the Grand Dao...
Creation blossomed.
Five vast realms came into existence.
They were not continents.
Nor single worlds.
Each realm was an entire universe.
Filled with galaxies...
Stars...
Worlds...
Countless races...
And endless possibilities.
The lowest became the Human Realm.
Above it formed the Celestial Realm.
Beyond that rose the Divine Realm.
Higher still stood the Origin Realm.
And above all rested the God Realm.
Each realm was like a vessel.
A cultivator who reached the limit of one vessel and survived unimaginable trials could ascend into the next.
Many dreamed of ascension.
Very few achieved it.
---
Life spread across creation.
Humans built kingdoms.
Ancient beasts ruled forgotten worlds.
Immortal forests grew around stars.
Oceans floated between galaxies.
Civilizations flourished...
And disappeared.
The Grand Dao remained unchanged.
So did I.
He wandered endlessly.
Sometimes walking among mortals without revealing his identity.
Sometimes watching the birth of galaxies from the back of the Legendary Golden Dragon, his oldest companion.
He witnessed every triumph.
Every tragedy.
Every beginning.
Every ending.
---
As ages became legends...
Exceptional beings arose.
Heroes.
Kings.
Sages.
Divine beasts.
Each sought to understand the Dao.
Each climbed the path of cultivation.
Most failed.
Some succeeded.
A handful surpassed all expectations.
Eventually...
Six names came to eclipse every other legend.
The Legendary Golden Dragon.
The Silver Phoenix.
The Nine-Headed Hydra.
The Ten-Tailed Beast.
The Unicorn Sovereign.
And...
Qiongqi.
After countless hardships...
All six reached the Fifth Stage of the God Realm.
The highest stage any god had ever attained.
Across the God Realm there were many other gods.
Some had reached the First Stage.
Others the Second.
A few stood proudly within the Third.
Only a rare handful ever reached the Fourth.
But the Fifth Stage belonged to only six.
Their names became synonymous with eternity.
Each ruled vast factions spanning countless universes.
Each possessed power beyond mortal imagination.
---
Yet...
Whenever I appeared...
The six legendary beings set aside their rivalries.
Not because they feared punishment.
Not because they had been defeated.
But because they understood one truth.
No matter how high they climbed...
No matter how many billions of years they cultivated...
They would never stand where I stood.
For I did not stand upon the path.
He was beyond it.
---
Among the six...
Only one heart changed over time.
Qiongqi.
He admired I.
Then envied him.
Then questioned him.
Finally...
He resented him.
Not openly.
Never openly.
He concealed those thoughts behind respect and patience.
For billions of years...
He waited.
Even beings who lived forever could afford patience.
---
One day...
At the edge of existence...
Where even stars had never been born...
I sat alone.
The Legendary Golden Dragon rested nearby, its body coiled around newborn galaxies.
For a long time...
Neither spoke.
Finally, the dragon asked,
"Why do you look troubled?"
I smiled faintly.
"I have witnessed everything."
"I have watched countless lives begin and end."
"I have seen every possible victory."
"And every possible defeat."
The dragon lowered its head.
"There is still more to see."
"There is."
I replied.
"But not as myself."
The dragon looked into I's eyes.
For the first time...
It could not understand what they reflected.
---
Far beyond them...
The Grand Dao stirred.
Not with words.
Not with commands.
Only with understanding.
The endless cycle of creation had reached another turning point.
Something new was about to begin.
Not in the halls of gods.
Not among immortal emperors.
Not within the highest heavens.
But...
In the smallest corner of the Human Realm.
A forgotten mountain village.
A struggling family.
And a child...
Who had not yet drawn his first breath.
The greatest legend in existence...
Would begin where no one thought to look.
