Disappointment

The next day the office resumes as normal. Priya's intercom buzzes. "Priya, please come to my cabin." "May I come in sir?" "Priya please we are getting married, cut off the formalities. Here Viraj has sent the outline of the contract, read it and then confirmed it. If you want to add something you can let me know." Viren then ushered her to a door that led to another room. " A secret room, never knew that it exists." Viren chuckled. He then gestured for her to sit. Priya read the contract which stated that they would stay loyal till the contract ends. The contract is for a year. They can have physical intimacy with each other's consent. Their families won't be involved. Most importantly by the time, the contract ends if Viren doesn't feel anything for Priya then their marriage would be annulled and the contract ends. Viren will give 50 million as reimbursement at the end of the contract. The contract will come into prosecution as soon as they get married. If Viren starts having emotions for Priya, then their marriage would continue. That was all. Priya read the whole contract in a go. She was satisfied with the terms and conditions of the contract and so she signed it. Although there was turmoil in her mind about how her life would take a turn if the marriage is annulled but she has to repay Viren, hence she didn't hesitate for a moment. Priya then went back to her cubicle. Wherein she gave up being strong and started sobbing. She was a crying mess, so she took half a day off and went home. “What happened Priya you are early today? Are you not feeling well? “I'm fine Ma. Nothing is wrong with me.” “That is why your eyes are red and puffy.” Vasudha spoke while passing her room. “Leave all this. I have good news, today Puneet has wired half of his salary in your father’s account, which is a large sum.” “That's great Ma. At least when I leave my job after marriage, you will not have to depend on anybody for your expenses and papa’s medicine. I wanted to inform you that in the coming weekend Viren and his dad will come to meet you both to finalise everything.” “We have a lot to do before that. Since you are home early, why don't you go with Vasudha shopping and prepare everything, as you are accustomed to their taste better than us.” Both the sisters went shopping and bought lots of things. Apart from entities needed at home, Priya bought a saree and shirt for her parents, a beautiful maternity dress for her sister and a baby pink colour Kurti with pearl embellishments and thread embroidery on it, with matching palazzo and a dupatta with heavy embroidery. The weekend came a little too early. All of them were busy with their respective chores. Priya's mother abstained Priya from doing the chores, she was supposed to sit and relax. Her mother preferred her to go to the salon to get ready. Here she is now sitting in the only salon in her area. Vasudha had dropped her there and would pick her up. When she arrived home her mother was open-mouthed seeing her daughter. She was wearing the dress she had bought, paired with gemstone studs with a matching neck string. She wore bangles and her long hair was left open with a curl at the ends. A minimal amount of makeup was applied, only a little bit of eyeshadow to enhance the beauty of her doe-shaped eyes, kohl for her already attractive eyes and a pink lipstick finished off her looks. Her mother applied a little bit of kohl to the back of her ears to save her from evil eyes. They were chit-chatting when the buzzing of the mobile caught her attention, and there was a message from Viren. " I'm still stuck in the meeting. I think we won't be able to make up. I am so sorry. Please excuse me. I think your parents would forgive me for not keeping my commitment." Priya was disappointed seeing this message, her face fell. All her efforts were wasted though it was not that she was enjoying it but belonging to a middle-class family, she knew that it would be hard for her mother to repeat the arrangements. Puneet and her salary made it possible but where will she arrange it again. A tap on her shoulder brings her back. "Back to earth is. Why does your face look like you survived a hit by a truck? Whose message was it?" "Viren is stuck and he will not be able to come. How will I face ma? She is already unhappy with my marriage." "That is so irrational of Viren. His behaviour at present makes him unreliable. How will I let my sister marry such a person." "We can discuss that later, how will I tell ma" "What do you want to confide Priya."? Priya then told her mother about Viren's message. Her mother was furious, eyes blazing and face red with anger. " How dare he play with my daughter's feelings? He knew he had to come, so why did he fix the meeting? He should make only those commitments which he can fulfil. From the beginning I was doubtful." She keeps on speaking without realising that she was hurting Priya in the process and that Priya's eyes were brimming with tears. After spitting bitterness for some time, she asked the sisters to have dinner. They were seated at the table and were about to start when the doorbell rang. Priya went to an open, as they were not expecting anybody, hence it could be a mistake from someone's aspect. The moment Priya opened the door she shrieked.
