Chapter 3

The Leaves were a beautiful gold, red and orange. The wind had been blowing lightly and Andrea enjoyed the fact she was able to walk in the forest. She often took long walks by herself even though she had been told multiple times not to. Getting to her favorite clearing she sat down on the log that she had drug in there a while ago. Sitting down she watched the deer that enjoyed this particular clearing as well. The first time they ran away but soon realized she enjoyed just sitting there. She was thinking about the classes she wanted to take in college when a shot rang out and pain shot through her. Andrea fell to the ground and immediately went into the fetal position trying to figure out where the pain was originating from. "f**k!" a voice said, they sounded panicked and unsure "f**k!" They said again. Andrea kept her face away from them she didn't want to give them a reason to shoot again.      "I thought she was one of them!" A second voice said, he sounded closer to tears than he probably was. "What do we do?!"      "What else can we do?!" The first said "We can either kill her or run away, she can't see our face and we can get away."      The second person didn't say anything, and Andrea couldn't figure out why they were blatantly talking about all of this as if she wasn't there. Then it hit her, they were whispering. They thought she couldn't hear them. "Alright," The second person said, she could hear him move closer to her. "I'll take care of it, you don't need to be apart of this." Andrea knew he was getting ready to shoot again so she waited for him to stop moving, then she struck. At the same time she attacked him the gun went off. Pain shot through her face, she wanted to drop to the ground but she had to get out of there. She wasn't going to die this way. Continuing the movement she had started she booked it further into the forrest. She couldn't tell if she was screaming or mind linking with any one she just knew she needed to get away.      She didn't know how long she had been running. All she knew was when she ran into something hard. She screamed thinking it was the people who shot her. "Andrea!" Anthony yelled holding her tight "Andrea your safe!" When she finally stopped screaming all she could get out was the fact that they were in the woods. She could hear the guards running into the woods as Anthony picked her up and ran towards the pack house. She could tell when they were inside there was a lot of commotion and people getting out of Anthony's way so they could get to the medical wing.      "Andrea!" her mother yelled "Andrea!" Opening her eyes slightly she could see the tears falling down her mothers face. "Andrea" Was the last thing she heard before blackness over took her.      She could hear Daniel trying to breath steadily as she told the story. It had taken 4 years for them to even take the men to court. That was 10 years ago. Saying the story out loud for the first time in a while gave Andrea cold chill. "The thing I keep going over is how much I could not wrap my mind around being blind." Andrea said holding onto the cup of coffee Daniel had made for her. Her breathing had become ragged as she thought about what had happened. The tears she wanted to shed fought her to fall, but she kept them in. She could hear Charlie get up and move closer to her and then stick his head in her lap causing her to set the coffee mug down and pet Charlies head. Taking a deep breath Andrea continued.      "A week after I had woken up, the doctors finally said I could leave and go home. The thing is, I was so angry. Getting home I tried to do thing I used to be able to do on my own, whether it was make food or try and clean. I never wanted to feel useless but I did. If you really think about it, who ever heard of a blind wolf before?" Andrea said with a dry laugh "At first I felt like an outcast, and a few of the wolves my age decided to play pranks on me. Some were harmless, others were more hazardous than they should have been. When Anthony found out what they were doing he became extremely mad. he even put a pack meeting together and informed the others that whatever they did to me he would do to them, but their punishment would be so much worse than me tripping over a stool or almost drinking anti freeze. he said he would actually make sure they would not be able to see what would happen and then he would kick them out of the pack I thought it was a little to much but the pranks ended." Andrea remembered how before he had made this speech, she had fought for a year to become normal. Every day the fight became harder and harder until finally Anthony did that speech. Her mother could not stand that she was fighting this fight alone and would not let her help. So she did the one thins she could. She got Andrea Charlie. She had done it by going to the courts with Anthony and getting her a court ordered service dog. After that, Charlie became a life line to her and her chance at a semi normal life. "One good thing out of all of this is that they did catch the guys who caused this," Andrea said raising her head to look in Daniels direction "They were sentenced to life in prison without parole." Daniel took her other hand in his and squeezed it.      "Well if its any consolation, I'm glad you are still around." Andrea smiled at him and agreed     "I am too."
