Chapter 2

1015 Words
Andrea got up from the seat she was in and went towards the little side kitchen in the main kitchen that held all the food for Charlie. She could hear him following behind her, his tail wagging as fast as it possibly could. Sometimes she wondered how his tail could remain attached to himself with how excited he would get sometimes. While she was getting his food ready the little bell attached to the front door chimed. "I'll be right with you!" She called to them. Placing Charlies bowl on the ground, she made her way to the front.     "How can I help you?" She asked reaching the front counter and started to feel for the tablet. She could hear the persons breath hitch as she finally found the tablet and handed it over to them. "Oh, Don't worry, I won't be making whatever you order." The person took the tablet from her but didn't say a word. soon she felt the tablet return to her hands. "Would you like a booth or a table?" She asked the person with a smile, she didn't know if they would answer her but she hoped they would. She hated not know if it was a man or a woman who was standing in front of her.      "Um.." The Voice sounded southern, Deep and husky "A booth, please." The man sounded like he either came from Texas or Alabama, but was not from Wyoming. She hoped she was giving him a soft smile as she asked him to follow her to the boot next to Martha's.      "Will this do for you?" She asked moving aside for him to enter. The man didn't say much but a quiet thank you as he walked past her into the booth. Andrea went back to her booth and let Daniel know that there was an order waiting for him. Daniel didn't say anything but made a noise she had learned was a type of yes. She liked to tease him that a noise didn't really constitute as an answer. His response was to let her know that he should put a stool in her way to see if she notices. Her relationship with Daniel was very different from other peoples. Where he could see and she couldn't, he couldn't shift, but she still could. No one quite knew why he couldn't shift, both his parents were both pure bred wolves so Daniel being unable to shift was very unusual.      That did not stop their friendship though. They often joked that they made up their own little misfit pack and it was better than most because of the fact they didn't have an alpha. Well they still did in their original pack but their imaginary one they were equals. Sitting down in front of her book again, Andrea became lost in thought again about how they both came to be in her shop and how she in fact couldn't see anymore.      It had been odd at first, after she had woken up from the accident. Since she had been 16 she had already shifted once and had been very helpful in the pack. This meant she refused to believe that she was in fact blind. She remembered fighting with her mom constantly after trying to make herself a drink one time A month after she had gotten out of the hospital "ANDREA!" Her mother had screamed "What are you doing!" Andrea held a glass in her hand and gave her mom a confused look. If she was actually looking at her mother she didn't know. Her mother had informed Andrea that the drink she had in her hand was not what Andrea thought it was. Andrea became very confused. She couldn't understand what her mother was saying. Since they kept all the drinks in the same spot for her she thought she had grabbed the bottle of milk. Andrea's mom stormed over to her and took the cup from her hand and dumped the contents into the sink. It was not long before Anthony joined them in the kitchen. Knowing her mom, She probably mind linked with him and demanded he join them. "I don't know who thought this was funny but Andrea almost drank it!" The shock that over came Andrea could not be described because she simply could not fathom how someone thought it was ok to put Anti Freeze in the drink she had just poured.      Andrea became angry that someone would do that. She had been promised that no one would treat her different and here was proof that someone had lied. They did eventually find the wolf who had done it. It was a teenage girl who claimed she didn't know what it was and thought Andrea would smell the difference before actually drinking it. Thankfully her mother had stopped her before she could actually drink the contents. The girl had been reprimanded and given extra duties. Anthony also made sure that the rest of the pack knew that if anyone decided to make fun of her or do anything close to what the girl had done they would ver much regret it.      Andrea had been lost in thought again when Daniel placed her coffee in front of her. He didn't say anything at first, but finally spoke. "Are you ok?"     Andrea raised her head to look in the direction of his voice. It wasn't until she did that, that she realized she'd been crying. "I was just thinking about what had happened that day." She whispered. Daniel Took her hand and squeezed it. They didn't say anything for a minute, just sat there letting her tears silently fall down her cheeks.        After a while he did finally ask her the question he had yet to ask, even after they became friends "Do you want to talk about that day?" Andrea thought about it for a moment then slowly nodded her head. Allowing her thoughts to go back to that fateful day she lost her sight.
