Hanna POV - The hut

1204 Words
The sand is the so hot I could swear I have blisters on my feet. All the sand is teal and looks very strange to me. Smells different too. Smells hot and spicy. We have been walking for some time and except for sand, and more sand we find dead plants, trees, and occasionally rock, neon pink rock we haven't seen anything or found interesting. And it is so hot and I am so thirsty. We try to make the water last long because we are in what looks like a desert and I don't know when we going to find water. Maybe if we are lucky we will find an oasis. I look at Seth and he looks ready to pass out. -How are you holding up, kid? I ask. -I am very thirsty, he says. And I am not a kid. -Sure you are. Look at you, for sure an Omega. Not that there is something wrong with being Omega, I joke. -Delta, he tells me and I can feel the pride in his voice. -So a warrior then. Good, we will need a warrior. We don't know what will find here. He seems very proud of himself like he was an Alpha. We walked for a long time and still no sign of water or any oasis. But we started to see what looked like a mountain. The Sun was starting to go down and the temperature to drop a little, which helped. And with the cooling comes all kind of sounds, like this whole place is coming to life. And I have a bad feeling. -We have to hurry, something is going to happen, I say to Seth and start moving faster. As we came closer to the mountain we realized it was kinda straight, like a wall and it stretches to the left and to the right for what looked like miles, The mountain-wall was pretty tall and had various cliffs on it, and it was separated into two parts. When I looked to my right I thought to see another wall there that will stretch up and down. But what amazes me more is that this entire mountain, well two mountains are purple and slitty sparkling in the Sun. I have never seen anything like this before. It was beautiful. All of a sudden one of the pink rocks, which were more abundant as we got closer to the wall, came to bask in what has left on the Sun, a creature. It was strange. Three big eyes, sand-colored, six legs, three small horns, and a large mouth. It was not very big, rabbit size, and looked like a local reptile. -That is one strange creature. I am so not eating that, Seth tells me. I laugh. It was good to laugh, I haven't laughed in a long time. -I won't eat that either, but we should walk even faster, I don't have a good feeling about this, I say while eyeing the strange creature. As we got even closer because we were practically jogging to it I spot on one of the cliffs a hut. Bingo! - Over there, I point out, a hut. Seth follows with his gaze the spot where I am pointing at and his eyes lits up. -You think someone is living there? he asks. -I don't know but we will find out. Ten minutes later we are at the base of the mountain and beneath the cliff where the hut is. The cliff wasn't that high. Maybe 3m up. -Hello, anybody there? I yell. But not a sound came from the hut. I sniff the air but only old scents lingered in the air. I look for a ladder or a way to get up but nothing. I guess I have to cliff climb. -Have you ever cliff climbed? I ask Seth. He shakes his head and looks rather pale. -Are you okay? I ask. -Yeah, it's just that heights are not my favorite he tells me. I nod, understanding him. -My mom was afraid of heights too, I would only go cliff climbing with my dad. And thinking of my family makes me want to curl and cry. But this is not the place and not the time to do it. So I hold back my tears and start climbing. -Once I am up I will look for something to throw down to you so you can get up, I tell Seth while climbing. Once I am up I see a ladder made out of rope and wood neatly rolled. One end was attached to two wood made poles that were were sticking from the ground. -Hanna, see anything? Seth yells. -Yes, give me a sec, I found a ladder. I unroll the ladder and let it slide slowly toward Seth. Once the ladder is at the bottom I see Seth grabbing it ready to climb. But he hesitates. -You have to climb, you know? -Give me a sec, I need to... I couldn't quite get the last part because his face was pressed on his lower arm, the ladder shaking slightly. A giggle threatens to escape me but I suppress it. All of a sudden I get goosebumps. "Danger," Artemisia warns me. And then I see it. Have you ever seen one of those velociraptors? Well not in real life, but in books about dinosaurs. Strait from one of those books a black velociraptor was running straight to us. -Seth, honey, you have to climb, NOW! I yell at him. His eyes go wide with fear. -Hanna? -Now, Seth, just f*****g climb already. And to my relief, he climbs fast and once he is up he falls to the ground. I start pulling the ladder up to be sure nothing or no one can get up. The velociraptor reaches the base of the mountain while I pulling the ladder up and starts screeching in furry. Seth bolts his head up. -What is that? he asks. -I think we landed on a planet where evolution is still in Jurassic Park. He groans. I guess being on a dinosaur planet is no fun at all, especially if we are dinner. -Let's see the hut. Maybe we will find water, I suggest. The hut wasn't too big but it was clean and well organized. Two small beds stood opposite to each other, one to the left and the other to the right as you entered the hut. In the middle of the hut was a square-shaped fireplace, a stack of wood in the middle. A tripod was standing above the wood. Of the wall facing the door baskets were hanging filled with dried meat, dried fruits, leaves, herbs, different roots. All the supplies were all organized. But what caught my eyes were the weapons. Two bows, two quivers filled with arrows, and two spears. So they were primitive, but at least we had some weapons. But not signs of water. I still had half the water canteen left. -This looks like something else, Seth says. -We have shelter, food, weapons but no water. We eat a little of the dried meat and try some dried fruits and then we go to sleep, exhausted.
