“Well?” Garner added, dismissing this minor revelation.
“It’s the Vee ability to move undetected among humans; the detached mode.”
“Oh!” Garner brightened. “Yes?”
“It’s like I said, basic. And easy to do. There is, however, a small trick. I will show you.”
And he did, without words, and Garner’s head went back in surprise.
“Amazing!” he murmured.
“Good,” replied Venn. “I was sure you would pick it up very quickly.” He stood up. “And now,” he continued, “I really will leave.”
Garner looked at the Vee, frowning. He still had the sense that he would like to pump Venn for more information, for answers to questions that still had not surfaced yet. And he was aware that he could insist on Venn’s staying—though that awareness made him uncomfortable.
