And there’s a device in the headset that—and this is the really odd part, but apparently it really does work like that—that detects—it’s in the parietal cortex, apparently—” The guard laughed, and to Garner’s relief the guard behind him, holding the gun, laughed too; apparently this was a common topic for talk among the guards. More importantly, the second guard seemed to have been influenced by Garner’s pressing on his partner—possibly a proximity effect? “Apparently, it gives an electronic pulse—EEG, or something—that part of the brain I mean—and, well, when the Vee is suppressing, then the brain doesn’t produce this pulse of recognition. And that triggers the alarm.”
