Chapter 002

1189 Words
“Ahem…” Sylvia coughed lightly. “Cole, do you know what’s going on?” After all, he was the only man here, and everyone had woken up in this absurd situation. No matter how one looked at it, it felt as if this whole thing had been arranged especially for him. Maybe he knew something. But Cole shook his head. “Professor Reed, I really don’t know. I was sleeping in my dorm, and when I opened my eyes, I was here.” “Right, right! I was sleeping too.” “I was in the bathroom.” “I was taking a shower.” “I was watching a movie.” The girls began chattering about what they had been doing before arriving here. Sylvia listened for a while but did not find any useful information. She could only let out a helpless sigh. Then she looked around and said, “Everyone, pull out a few strands of hair and weave them together.” “Professor, why are we making a rope?” Jenna asked in confusion. The other girls were equally puzzled. Sylvia glanced at Cole, her face turning red again. “So he can tie something around his waist. It’s not appropriate for him to keep standing like that.” As soon as she said that, many of the girls blushed fiercely, but they silently agreed. A few bolder girls were also red-faced, yet their eyes remained suspiciously direct. Cole spread his hands helplessly and muttered to himself. What could he say? Some things were simply natural gifts. Just as everyone was awkwardly preparing the improvised rope, a crackling electric sound suddenly echoed inside the carriage. [Welcome to the Survival Rail Game.] [This survival trial includes six billion participants. You have been assigned to trains across the Savage Continent. These trains will never collide or intersect with one another.] [Attention: Trains will randomly stop in cities and settlements across the Savage Continent. At each stop, you must gather supplies, tools, and survival resources.] [Within these cities, you may encounter other survivors. You may also encounter zombies, goblins, gnomes, dwarves, orcs, and many other unknown creatures.] [Survive. Grow your group. Prepare for the challenges ahead.] [At seven o’clock this morning, the train will stop. If you fail to return before the departure time, you will be left behind.] [The Novice Protection Period lasts for three days. During these three days, you will be relatively safe on the train. However, accidents are still possible.] [One month later, the Great Frost Apocalypse will descend.] [Prepare yourselves well, Chosen Ones.] As the electric voice disappeared, a computer appeared out of thin air on the wall in the corner of the carriage. The entire carriage fell silent. All the girls stared at the computer with wide eyes. After a long pause, Lily Frost, a petite girl with a sweet face, slowly raised her hand. “So… does that mean we can’t go back?” “Well, since we’re already here, isn’t this basically wilderness survival?” “I’m studying medicine. I can help treat injuries.” “I know how to cook. I can make food for everyone.” “I learned basic midwifery. If anyone gets pregnant someday, I can help deliver the baby.” The entire carriage went dead silent again. Everyone looked at the girl who had just said that, then turned to look at Cole. Cole immediately spread his hands. Don’t look at me. This has nothing to do with me. “Doesn’t this kind of apocalypse usually come with special abilities?” one girl asked excitedly. “Did anyone awaken a power?” The girls often read survival and fantasy novels on Tomato Reads. They had imagined countless times what they would do if they were transported to another world. Now that it had actually happened, some of them seemed excited rather than terrified. Their mental strength was honestly frightening. But after looking at one another, everyone shook their heads. “Uh…” Cole raised his hand. “I think I awakened something.” Swish! More than twenty pairs of eyes instantly locked onto him. Even with his thick skin, Cole felt a little embarrassed. What was the difference between this and being stared at by everyone without clothes? Wait. That was exactly what was happening right now. No. He could not be the only one at a disadvantage. So Cole calmly looked back. The rule was simple. If you look at me, I look at you. No one loses. “Shameless,” Jenna said, annoyed but unable to do anything. “Just tell us what you awakened.” “Yeah, Cole, did you awaken some kind of heaven-defying ability?” The girls started talking excitedly. Some even bounced in place without realizing it. Cole’s eyes nearly went stiff. Wow. Some things really did move. Then he instinctively looked toward Sylvia. “Cole Mercer!” Sylvia immediately noticed his gaze and clenched her fist. “Look somewhere else!” Cole quickly shifted his eyes away. But the problem was that the girls had formed a circle around him. No matter where he looked, there was danger. This was too difficult. If he were not using all his willpower, he might already have fainted from blood loss. Staying among them for too long might honestly kill him. After forcing himself to calm down, Cole checked the information that had appeared in his mind. [Ding! Conductor System successfully bound.] [Ding! System Vault generated. Once every seven days, you may duplicate one selected item without limit.] [You can see information that others cannot detect.] Duplicate one item every seven days? See information others could not detect? Cole frowned slightly and instinctively looked toward Sylvia. A string of text appeared above her head. [Sylvia Reed. Age: 23. Talent: Luck Enhancement. Combat Record: 0. Loyalty: Unstable.] Cole’s eyes lit up. So that was what the system could show him. This woman was a real treasure. “Cole! You’re staring again!” Sylvia snapped, her face red. “Tell us what ability you awakened!” Cole awkwardly rubbed his nose. “Actually, it’s nothing too special. I think I gained an ability to see certain information about people.” “You can see information?” “What kind of information?” “Isn’t that basically spying?” “What spying?” Cole replied righteously. “I never spy. I look openly and honestly.” “p*****t,” Jenna muttered, glaring at him. She really wanted to say that not only had he seen her, he had also accidentally touched her earlier. More than once. The other girls also looked at Cole with disdain. If the carriage had not been so small and if the situation had not been so strange, they might have thrown him out already. “Why is he the only one who got a special ability?” “Could it be because he’s the only man?” “Then does that mean we can’t fight monsters?” The girls started discussing anxiously again. Sylvia, however, turned her attention to the computer behind Cole. “What is that?”
