Chapter 15: Bound by Desire The air around them crackled with silence. Aria could still feel the echo of Damon’s voice from moments ago—low, dark, and full of restrained hunger. The way he’d whispered her name before disappearing into the corridor had left her trembling. Now, alone in his penthouse office, she stood by the glass wall, city lights glowing below, heartbeat uneven. She touched her lips unconsciously. His touch lingered there — not from a kiss, but from the weight of his gaze, the one that promised it might happen soon. When the elevator dinged softly, she spun around, heart racing, but it wasn’t Damon. It was Ethan — Damon’s head of security — tall, sharp, and grim. “Miss Bloom,” he said, his tone clipped. “Mr. Blackwood wanted me to escort you downstairs. The security sweep isn’t complete.” “Security sweep?” she asked, frowning. “What’s going on?” Ethan hesitated, then said quietly, “We have reason to believe someone got into the system tonight.” Her blood ran cold. “You mean… someone broke in?” He nodded once. “Physically or digitally. We’re still investigating.” As Aria followed him into the elevator, her thoughts tangled. The threats Damon had been receiving, the tension in his eyes lately, the way his mood shifted between tenderness and fury — everything connected like invisible threads pulling tight around her chest. When the elevator doors opened to the main lobby, she froze. Damon stood there — his black shirt half unbuttoned, sleeves rolled, eyes like midnight storms. His aura was magnetic, dangerous, and painfully beautiful. His gaze lifted instantly to hers, intense enough to pin her in place. “Aria.” His voice was rougher than before, threaded with tension. “Come with me.” Ethan gave a respectful nod and disappeared down the hall, leaving them alone. Damon’s hand closed gently but firmly around her wrist. His touch burned. “Damon—what’s happening?” she asked, walking beside him as he led her into a private corridor that opened into a hidden elevator. He scanned his fingerprint, and the doors slid shut. He didn’t answer right away. His jaw was tight, muscles tense. Only when the elevator started descending did he speak. “Someone planted a device in my server room. It was meant to copy files related to Blackwood International.” Her heart skipped. “Who would do that?” “I’m still finding out.” His voice darkened. “But whoever it is, they knew exactly where to hit me. And it’s not just business anymore, Aria. They were after you too.” Her breath caught. “Me?” He turned to her, eyes fierce. “Your project files were accessed. Your designs. Your name.” His voice broke slightly, almost imperceptibly. “I won’t let anyone touch you.” The way he said it — the raw promise in his tone — sent a tremor through her body. Damon wasn’t just a man protecting his company; he was a man protecting the woman who had somehow become his weakness. When the elevator opened again, they were in his private underground residence — a space she had never seen before. The atmosphere was different here. Darker. Intimate. The walls were lined with glass shelves, dimly lit, displaying rare art and shadows. It was as if the place itself was carved out of secrecy. He led her through the quiet hall until they reached a large suite with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the night. The air smelled faintly of cedar and smoke — Damon’s scent. Aria turned to him. “You think whoever did this might come after me?” Damon’s gaze softened for the first time that night. He stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. “They already tried, Aria. You just don’t remember.” Her lips parted. “What do you mean?” He reached out, brushing his fingers down her cheek. “The car that almost hit you last week… it wasn’t an accident.” Her eyes widened. “What—no, that was—” “Planned,” he interrupted quietly. “The CCTV footage was erased. But I found traces. Someone wanted to scare you—or silence you.” Aria’s knees weakened. “Oh my God…” Before she could crumble, Damon’s arm came around her waist, pulling her against him. The warmth of his body, the strength in his hold—it felt like the only real thing in the world. “You’re safe now,” he murmured against her hair. “As long as you’re with me.” Her pulse raced. “You can’t just lock me away, Damon.” “I can,” he said softly, dangerously. “And I will if it means keeping you alive.” Their eyes met—his dark and fierce, hers shimmering with confusion and something dangerously close to longing. She could feel the pull between them, the same invisible force that had been drawing them together from the beginning. “Why do you care so much?” she whispered, almost afraid of the answer. Damon’s eyes burned into hers. “Because I can’t stop.” Before she could breathe another word, he leaned down and kissed her. It wasn’t a soft kiss. It was desperate, claiming, full of everything he’d been holding back — fear, anger, desire. His hands framed her face as if anchoring himself, his lips moving against hers until she melted completely. Aria’s hands trembled as they clutched his shirt, pulling him closer. She felt his heart hammering against her chest. The world outside disappeared — no danger, no secrets — just the taste of him, intoxicating and real. When he finally pulled back, both of them were breathing hard. His forehead rested against hers. “That,” he whispered, “is what you do to me.” Her voice was shaky. “And what happens now?” He smiled faintly — a dangerous, devastating smile. “Now… you stay here. Until I find who’s behind this.” She shook her head. “I can’t hide forever.” “You won’t have to,” he said, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “But until then, you’re under my protection. Twenty-four hours.” “Damon—” He silenced her with a look. “Don’t argue, Aria.” Her pulse fluttered. “You’re impossible.” He leaned close, his lips brushing her ear. “And you’re mine to protect.” The words left her dizzy. Every time he looked at her like that, she forgot to breathe. Later that night, when Aria finally tried to rest in the guest suite he’d assigned her, she couldn’t sleep. The memory of his kiss burned in her mind like fire. She could still feel the echo of his breath on her skin, the way his voice had wrapped around her name like a secret. But beneath all that heat, fear lingered. Someone wanted to hurt Damon. And maybe… her. Suddenly, a soft knock came at her door. Her heart skipped. “Who is it?” “It’s me,” came Damon’s low voice. She hesitated before unlocking the door. He stood there, wearing a black robe, his hair slightly damp as if he’d just showered. Even in the dim light, his presence filled the room. “I didn’t mean to wake you,” he said quietly. “I just—needed to see you.” “See me?” she asked, voice barely above a whisper. He nodded, stepping closer. “To remind myself you’re really here.” Her breath caught as he brushed his knuckles along her jawline. “You should rest,” he murmured. “Tomorrow will be long.” “Will you?” she whispered. “Rest?” He gave a small, humorless smile. “Men like me don’t rest. Not when someone’s trying to take everything away.” Her fingers trembled. “Then let me help.” His expression softened, but only slightly. “You already do, Aria. More than you know.” For a moment, they stood there — inches apart — the silence charged with something that felt like gravity. She wanted to step away, to breathe, but her body refused to move. Damon’s gaze dropped to her lips again. His voice was low, dangerous. “You should close the door before I do something I’ll regret.” Her voice was barely audible. “And if I don’t?” He froze — and for the briefest heartbeat, the world held still. Then, with a deep breath that sounded almost like surrender, Damon stepped back. “Good night, Aria.” She watched him leave, her pulse wild, her heart aching in ways she couldn’t understand. When the door closed, she leaned back against it, whispering into the dark, “Good night… Damon.” Outside, unseen by both of them, a red light blinked softly on a small device hidden near the window frame. A camera. Watching. Recording. Someone was already inside their world. ---
