Lily's frown deepened, a mocking smile emerging from her lips. "Tattle talking to my father? Just to get me in trouble? Why would you do that, cousin?" Lily asked, remorse not evident in her eyes.
Clara's gaze narrowed on her cousin. This was not her sweet cousin that she was used to. Her cousin would run after her in the past, asking her for business tips, asking her for beauty tips and even advice on men.
But now, sitting in the middle of her bed naked with her fiancee, her cousin has transformed into someone she didn't know. She was no longer the little girl she loved so much.
Clara scorned. Turning around, she tried to leave but Julian held onto her hands. Clara looked back at him, her eyes filled with disgust piercing into his.
"Clara, hear me out. It's not what you think, this was a mistake. Everything here was a mistake, I mistook her for you and did what I did, she didn't say anything about not being you."
"Please Clara, hear me out. Please." Julian begged, not willing to let go of Clara's hand.
Clara held onto his hand with hers which was stiletto, she pierced the top of her nails into his hands and pushed it causing him to whine in pain.
"Don't you ever hold my hands again or try to stop me from leaving. The consequences will be terrible." Clara remarked and stepped out, walking away.
....
On her way out, Clara recalled how she had just been begging her mother to let her get married to Julian but her mother had complained against it, stating that Julian was clinging to her because of her inheritance.
Tears fell from Clara's cheeks, the pain she had tried so hard to conceal, pooled in her eyes. The tears fell, with holding back.
Clara sniffed unhappily, walking through the rain into her car. She had not bothered to take back her umbrella, probably if the rain hit her hard enough, she would realize it was just a bad dream.
A bad dream that she was having, none of this had happened. Clara hoped so deeply that it would be a bad dream, but reality was in front of her. The walk inside the rain reminded her that it was not a dream but her reality.
Her painstaking reality and nothing more than it. Clara cried inside her car, her eyes refusing to cry up from the betrayal.
The dull ache and faint feeling of pain in her chest, reminded her of how hurtful it was. She could have walked in with him and someone else not her cousin.
And that too, not in her own bed and apartment. Clara screamed, hitting the car steering with her hands, hoping it would take away the pain.
"Ahhhhh!" She continued screaming, tears pouring down her face.
A few more minutes passed by without Clara still crying, she continued till she heard the customized ringing tone, which she had set for her mum.
Clara picked up the phone, answering the call without a second thought.
"Clara, what do you think? Do you want to go on that date I told you about?" Mrs. Alexis Laurent asked, her tone light and feathery.
Clara thought went back to yesterday, where her mum had picked a blind date for her. Her mum strongly believed that she should marry someone from their league, who could match their wealth and not someone who was a start up like Julian.
Clara didn't judge people by their status, she never did that. She believed even people of low status were good people but today, Julian proved her completely wrong.
Without thinking twice, Clara said yes to her mum. "Yes mum."and
Alexis burst out in excitement. That was easy, if it was usually hard to get her daughter to agree to these things. "I will send you the details now, do not keep him waiting."
Mrs. Laurent happily ended the call and proceeded to text Clara the details of the date and the booking of the restaurant.
Clara glanced at her phone for a while, staring at the restaurant. She pulled herself out of her slurp, started the car and drove away from her apartment.
What better way to get rid of the hurt and thought of a cheating man and a cousin who had just betrayed her, than finding a suitable man to marry.
The drive to the restaurant took about thirty minutes and the date was fixed for 6:00pm. She has managed to make it on time, beating the Los Angeles traffic rush.
Clara wipes her face, dusting out her hair. Her dress was presentable and didn't look wet, so she settled for that. She could settle for anything right now, as she had no choice.
Clara climbed out of the car and made her way into the restaurant. The restaurant was one of the many restaurants, which elites spent their time.
Moving to the front desk, Clara put on a little smile on her face before approaching the front desk.
"How may I help you ma'am?" The receptionist asked, giving Clara a bright smile.
"A reservation for Clara Laurent please." Clara muttered. She was certain her mum already booked the reservations and just as she believed, that was the case in fact.
"Welcome Miss Laurent. Your seat is 414 by the window, it offers a nice view and a suitable atmosphere for your date."
Clara thanked the receptionist with a fake smile and made her way towards the seat. Her impulsive decision, would probably be a regret soon.
While sitting, Clara took notice of a man walking towards her. He was dressed in a three piece suit, although he tried not to stand out but he stood out from the crowd.
The man walked towards her and stood in front of her. "Are you my blind date?" He asked, his voice cool with a deep baritone that left Clara a bit surprised.
Clara stared at him, a bit puzzled, trying to figure out where she had seen him in the past.
