Lucian hummed, then nodded, he also had work to do but being the CEO, he could escape work anytime he deemed fit.
"I will text you the address then. I guess we will see later in the day, have a great time at the office, wife." Lucian muttered, his lips tilted into a little smile.
Clara watched him in surprise, she sighed helplessly and walked towards her car parked outside the bureau, she got into hers, so did Lucian and they both drove to their various locations.
Her marriage certificate was tucked safely into her bag, her fingers felt heavy from the weight of the ring on her fingers.
Her husband didn't look like a rich tycoon, so she wondered if the stones on the ring were even real.
........
Clara sat in her office all day, thinking about what she had just done. She tried to figure out how to tell her parents that she was married. She would rather tell them now, than tell them later.
She worked as a manager in her family's empire, being trained to take over the family business once she had enough experience and was suitable for it.
Her parents were all that mattered to her, she could turn the tides of the ocean just for them. That was how much they meant to her.
While Clara was having an inner turmoil trying to figure out when to inform her parents I'd her marriage, her assistant walked into the office.
"Ma'am. Miss Laurent is here to see you." Her assistant, Kara said.
Clara looked up at her assistant blankly. Miss Laurent? There were only three Miss Laurent in the family, herself, her younger sister and of course, her cousin.
"If it is Lily, tell her I am busy and will see her later. If not, let my sister come in." Clara muttered. She didn't want to have a conversation with Lily just yet.
The assistant nodded and went back out, informing Lily that Clara was busy and could not see her just yet.
"If she is really busy, then she would not let you into her office. Let me go see her myself, you are useless." Lily muttered, unhappy that Clara was chasing her away.
"Ma'am, you cannot go in there. The miss is busy, you have to wait for her to be done first." Kara said, blocking Lily's way.
Lily frowned in frustration, she didn't have time for jokes and playing around. She pushed the assistant out of the way, forcing her way into Clara's office.
Clara was busy typing on her laptop, when the door got pushed open. She glanced up, not surprised to see Lily.
"Did you tell your assistant to tell me you are busy? Why is that?" Lily asked, demanding answers. She stood in front of Clara's desk, annoyed.
"What do you want, Lily?" Clara asked, not in the mood to entertain whatever was going to happen.
"I came to apologize to you for yesterday. It was a mistake on my path, that should never have happened. Please forgive me and keep this between us, please." Lily muttered, placing her bag on the table.
She looked remorse but the look in her eyes yesterday, had not stopped hunting Clara even till this very moment.
"Please cousin. I am your favorite cousin remember, your little sister as well, can't you put that behind you and live like nothing happened?" Lily asked, hoping to get Clara's forgiveness.
"Are you heading yourself right now?" Clara asked, surprised by the audacity Lily had to come over and beg her.
"You want me to forget what happened last night? I will but I will never forgive you for sleeping with my boyfriend. Who knows how long you have been having an affair with him." Clara muttered, her tone a little bit higher than usual.
"I didn't have an affair with him. Julian is attractive and I agree, but I would never steal him from you. He is yours, I can't possibly do that. Please forgive me." Lily remarked, a slight frown settling on her face.
She had expected Clara to report to her father but she didn't, she immediately thought there was still hope but unfortunately it didn't look like it.
"I do not forgive you Lily. Get out of my office." Clara muttered, standing up on her feet. Her eyes were filled with fire and sadness.
"Why do you act so hard and bossy? I am trying to be you, please forgive me." Lily muttered unhappily, the frown etched on her face getting deeper.
"I do not forgive you. You do not tell me how to handle the hurt and damage caused by you, towards me. So leave already." Clara said.
"But Clara, I love you so much. I am kneeling and begging you, please forgive me. I will do anything for you, I will give you my shares, please forgive me." Lily muttered, forcing up tears, she raised her tone a little bit higher hoping to cause an uproar.
Lily didn't like Clara. She had always felt Clara stole everything away from her because she was born first, the right to become the heiress, her family not having enough, it was all Clara's fault.
The door of the office pushed open at that moment and Julian walked in.
"What are you doing Clara? Are you going to let your cousin give you everything she owns before you forgive her?"
"How can you be so cruel?" Julian muttered, staring at Clara with disgust.
Clara could not help but grimace in pain, the dull ache which she had been trying to hide and push back since the previous day, surfaced.
"What are you doing here? You both get out!" Clara muttered, raising her tone.
"Are you unhappy because of what you saw yesterday? It was a mistake, forget about it already. Haven't you always wanted to get married? Let's get married today, you'll see I love you and only you." Julian muttered, stepping closer to Clara.
He hoped she would be moved by his words, knowing it was her biggest wish for the past year.
Clara laughed, her eyes watering. How was she so blind to the fact that she was being used? How?
Not anymore.
Raising her hand, she brought her fingers up. "I am already married and do not need you anymore."
