Sky James strode in at 3 PM on the dot. Punctual as always. I stood up and held out the tall cup from Starbucks. “Caffè Misto right?” I asked. Her left eyebrow rose then she took the cup from me, our fingers slightly touched and I could’ve sworn I felt a jolt of something upon contact. And also, holy smokes she's the only girl aside from my mother who can make me feel nervous as hell. “How did you know?” She asked tipping the cup slightly. Oh... s**t. Right. “I uh remembered you asked for it once, so. And, Mav might’ve mentioned it. You guys hang out sometimes right?” She nodded and smiled softly. “Yeah we do and thank you,” she said and my heart skipped a beat. I was motherfucking speechless once we settled on the couch. She continued sipping coffee, looking at anything but me. I, on the other hand, kept staring at her. It’s not a good ego boost when a certain girl doesn’t bat her eyelashes at you while everybody else does, but then you suddenly realize that she’s not just any kind of girl. She’s the girl who’s totally unattainable in more ways than one. Like you must be living in another dimension if you don’t know who her parents are, but she doesn’t shove that fact on people’s faces which is exactly the reason why I both dig her and stir clear of her. “So, what stuff should we talk about?” She asked, still avoiding my gaze. “It’s about what Colin said, you know about writing together. Do you write songs?” She nodded in response. “I’ve written several ones over the past years.” Huh, I didn’t know that. Well, that’s probably the only thing I didn’t know about her or maybe there really are a lot of things I don't know about her. I guess I'll know the answer to that somewhere along the way. “Oh yeah?” I queried. “Yup!” she answered popping the “p” at the end. “Okay, so I think we shouldn’t wait a month to work on it.” I paused gauging her reaction and when she didn’t say anything, I took that opportunity to explain further. “Starting as early as now will give me ample time to... maybe uh, train you so you can catch my drift?” Wait, am I asking her, or am I telling her? Her blue eyes slightly narrowed and stared at me like I suddenly grew an extra head. f**k! I know what that look means. Every woman gives that look when someone has offended her and trust me, offending her is not something I want to do at all. “You think I’m going to mess things up, don’t you?“ James is probably thinking that I’m an asshole and egotistical. “I uh didn’t say that. I didn’t mean it that way. I just think that we need to make sure that we’re on the same page as to what kind of music the band wants.” I stammered. “And you think I won’t be able to comprehend what you want and thus I need to be trained?” I can’t believe I just dug my own grave, all six feet under of it. “No. That's not it. Not it at all. I’m sorry it came out wrong. I didn’t mean to make it sound like I was... belittling you. Believe me, I wasn’t. I think what I should’ve said which is what I truly mean was let’s start early so we can explore as much as we can before time runs out. I apologize if I’ve offended you.” And that’s exactly the truth. I don’t doubt for a second that she’s possibly good. I just wasn’t used to talking to her, so it’s messing up my brain to mouth function. We were quiet for quite some time just staring at each other like we’re frozen. The spell only broke when my eyes drifted towards her mouth. She was slightly nibbling her bottom lip and here I am wondering how it’ll feel like to run my tongue over it which was obviously not the proper time nor thought right now. “Look, I understand how apprehensive you are because you’ve been writing your songs since the beginning of time, but I’m not here to compete. Maybe they want to experiment with new genres which is why I’m here. I’m not here to s**t on your parade okay?” I rolled my eyes at her in exasperation. “I didn’t say you’re going to and for the record I never thought that either. I don't know why I can't seem to express myself correctly today of all days, but I swear on my dead pet fish Goldie, I wasn't thinking that you were going to s**t on my parade okay?” She looked like she was trying to suppress her grin but then she abruptly stood to grab her bag. I panicked a bit because I thought she was going to walk out on me, but then she took something out and handed the blue folder to me. I threw her a questioning look “Is this?” She nodded once crossing her arms over her chest. “Those are my songs, you can go through them and let me know if I passed your exam.” Ah, she's using sarcasm to get back at me. I’ll let it slide since I did kinda make her feel bad. “Actually, I was going to ask if this was the same blue folder in the dressing room,” I teased, smirking like I won the lottery. “Yeah, that’s the one. Colin wanted to borrow it, so.” She slightly blushed and lowered her gaze. "You know, I never got to thank you for interrupting." She grimaced and I can tell she was having a flashback. "Are you being sarcastic or?" she asked. "I'm being honest, I didn't want to do anything with her. So, you interrupting gave me an excuse to leave." Her mouth formed into a slight O. "Actually, I wasn't expecting to see you. I kind of expected to see Maddox since, well you know." I chuckled at her confession. "Yeah, Maddox equals manslut." And she giggled at that. Man, I've always known she's gorgeous, but seeing her up close? No words can express. The tension faded considerably after that and we just continued discussing different ideas and when we can actually start writing. We both have our own studios at home so we've decided to go back and forth, then just start working here next month. Once we were done, I walked her to her car and opened the door for her. I bent down to peer at her and lifted the blue folder. "I'm going to check this out when I get home and I'll call you later." When she nodded, I gave her a salute and headed towards my car. I guess that turned out pretty okay.
