Six

Sky I was just starting to study James’ music book when a message came in. It was sent to our group chat that included Colin which means it's band business and not some random s**t the guys and I usually go on about. So, even though I would rather ignore it, I couldn't and shouldn't. Colin: Dinner at the boss’s house tonight at seven. Notice was late, but no skipping! Me: Why? Colin: Jesus, Sky. If you really must know, we’ve been invited. Big G's orders, so everyone has to be there. Me: Fine. Maddox: Can I bring a date? Colin: f**k no! Do that and I’m cutting your balls off in your sleep. Maddox: Aye captain! Maverick: Sure thing boss. Date or no date I concur with cutting Maddee’s balls off. Jaxon: Yes to big G's orders, but please stop talking about Maddox’s balls or I’m gonna barf! Maddox: Oh yeah? Guess what? You two fuckers can kiss my newly shaved balls! Colin: Alright kids, knock it off! Seven sharp. I chuckled at their exchanges and threw my phone on the couch. I played a few tunes from the first song on my guitar and stopped abruptly. Wait a second. This song is really familiar. I scanned the chorus and played the notes from there. No, I know this song. It’s Heaven Hill’s number one song from her second album. This can’t be right. I flipped to the next pages and played the songs starting from the chorus and each time I did, I would discover song after song of GWH’s signed artists. What the f**k is this? This was definitely a confusing revelation. Did she really write all these songs? I guess the only way for me to find out is to ask the next time we meet then. I was about to close the book when the last song caught my eye. Amber Moon the title says. Finally! Something I haven’t heard before. The song was halfway done, but I continued to strum through it and when I got to the chorus, I was completely mesmerized. Not only did it sound amazing, but the lyrics held a soulfulness to it that cut deep into your heart. Amber moon, light as the day, dark as the night You hunt my dreams in the most beautiful nightmare You’re a bittersweet addiction that consumes my soul Every fiber of my being calls out to you even from afar Amber moon, you’re the air that keeps me alive But you’re also the poison that’s slowly killing me You’re the tangible intangible. The perfect imperfection You’re everything that’s wrong, but absolutely right. Well, fuck... I’ve always known that she’s something else, but after playing this, I am completely in awe of her. s**t. I guess the girl’s really talented. I stared at the sheet for a very long time wondering where she got the inspiration to write this. I like this song. I really do, so I'm thinking that she has to finish this song and I’m going to make sure she does even if I have to force her to. I wasn't really in a hurry to attend the dinner party but looks like I need to somehow be there as early as I can. So, I grabbed my phone and headed to my room to change. Honestly, I'm not into dinner parties like these, but after what I’ve just heard, there’s no way I’m going to miss the chance to be there. I picked Maddox up because the motherfucker was too lazy to drive and once he buckled his seatbelt, I gave him a rundown of today’s events and discovery. “f**k, Sky! Did you really miss all that or are you just so worked up with avoiding her that you’re the only one who has no f*****g clue that she’s a resident ghostwriter?” My head snapped towards Maddox. “What the f**k did you just say?” He smirked at me and shook his head. “She writes for everyone, but she uses the boss’s name. Don’t ask me why because I ain’t got a clue.” That explains the other songs. “You’ve got to open your eyes more brother and also pay more attention to her or someone’s going to swoop in.” He teased. I was about to go on an Easter egg hunt when we arrived. The egg being a certain gorgeous blue-eyed girl but before I could pull away, she appeared out of nowhere. “Hey, James!” Maddox enthusiastically said. Clearly, I’m not the only one who’s attracted to her. As a matter of fact, all four of us have been pining for her for years. “Uh, hi?” was her reply. I was so busy ogling her that I forgot to say hello. I just stood there enjoying the view in a not-so-subtle way. “Where’s the rest of the gang?” She asked and I didn’t give Maddox the chance to answer. “Still on their way I guess or they might already be here.” She studied me for a bit before saying, “oh, okay. Well, let’s go then!” I discreetly elbowed Maddox when James was no longer looking before walking past him. I took my precious time walking behind her while checking out her perfect round ass and sexy as hell legs. May God forgive me for being such a perv. She looked around the tent that was set up for the dinner party and headed towards where Maverick and Jaxon were sitting. Maverick stood up to greet her with a friendly hug while Jaxon waved at her. “Hey, guys! Mind if I sit with you?” she asked with a megawatt smile plastered on her face. I can tell that she’s more than welcome to stay based on the googly eyes the boys were giving her as they gestured for her to take a seat. I pulled the chair for her next to Mav’s which she returned with a perplexed look “Thank you,” she said. I smiled and nodded before sitting next to her. I have no f*****g clue why she wants to sit with us, but I’m not complaining because there's no need to play cat and mouse tonight. Griffin Hayes clinked his champagne flute with a bread knife to gather everyone’s attention and once every eye was on him, he started his speech with lots and lots of gratitude about everyone’s support and how everyone still came even if it was late notice. Then he moved on to future plans and album releases, then on to his daughter. He informed everyone that we’re finally going to be able to work with her and that she’s finally decided to come out of her shell and let people know how talented she is. James lowered her head and covered her face while her father continued to dote on her for the next several minutes. She looked like she wanted to hide under the table, but tried to be a good sport by smiling and nodding at her dad whenever he'd make eye contact with her. I rubbed my thumb over my lower lip as I watched her turn red in embarrassment. I was deeply wondering whether the red blotches on her cheeks and neck would also appear under a different circumstance. I guess the real question is, do I dare find out? The funny thing is, she's always been on my radar. The only problem is, I would chicken out at the last minute whenever I'd decided to at least have a decent conversation with her. I've always wanted to make a move, but I just didn't know how to do it up until after these past two days. Can you blame me though? I mean come on, she's the boss's daughter. Basically, I could keep ruminating about the past all night long or I could decide to do something about it now. So, what I'm really getting at is I want to see where this arrangement of ours will lead to. I admit I feel nervous but I'm also excited as hell to keep hanging out with her.
