Chapter7: Great fear

Remmick lunged at them, Mike instinctively pushed Sammy and Emily behind him, ready to defend them against the supernatural threat. Remmick's eyes blazed with an intense energy, and his presence seemed to fill the alleyway with an otherworldly power. "You shouldn't have gotten involved in this, Mike," Remmick sneered, his voice low and menacing. "You and your little friend are just pawns in a much larger game." Mike stood his ground, his eyes locked on Remmick's. "We're not going to back down," he said, his voice firm. "You're not taking Sammy anywhere." Remmick chuckled, the sound sending shivers down Sammy's spine. "Oh, but I think I will," he said, his eyes glinting with amusement. "You see, Sammy has something that I need. And I'll do whatever it takes to get it." As Remmick raised his hand, Sammy felt a strange sensation wash over her. It was as if she was being pulled towards him, her feet moving involuntarily towards the vampire. "No!" Mike shouted, grabbing Sammy's arm and trying to hold her back. But it was too late. Sammy felt herself being drawn into Remmick's world, a world of darkness and magic. The last thing she saw was Mike's desperate face before everything went black. When Sammy came to, she was lying in a dark, damp room. The air was musty and cold, and she could hear the sound of dripping water somewhere in the distance. She sat up, her head spinning, and looked around. Where was she? And how did she get there? As she struggled to her feet, Sammy saw that she was alone in the room. There was no sign of Mike or Emily, and she had no idea where Remmick was. But as she looked around, she saw something that made her blood run cold. On the wall opposite her, in letters of dripping red paint, was scrawled a single word: "Mine." Sammy's heart sank as she realized the truth. She was Remmick's prisoner, and she had no idea what he planned to do with her. But she knew one thing for sure: she would do whatever it took to escape Sammy's eyes locked onto the word "Mine" on the wall, a chill ran down her spine. She knew she had to get out of there, and fast. She frantically searched the room for any possible means of escape, her eyes scanning every inch of the space. The room was dimly lit, with only a faint light emanating from a small, barred window high up on one wall. The door was made of solid wood, with heavy iron hinges and a large, old-fashioned keyhole. Sammy knew she wouldn't be able to break it down, not without some serious effort. She began to search the room more thoroughly, looking for anything that might help her escape. That's when she noticed a small, rusty nail on the floor, partially hidden by a pile of dust and debris. It wasn't much, but it might just be enough. Sammy picked up the nail and approached the door. She examined the keyhole closely, wondering if she could use the nail to pick the lock. It was a long shot, but she had to try. As she worked on the lock, Sammy heard footsteps outside the door. They were heavy, deliberate footsteps, and they were getting closer. Sammy's heart sank as she realized that Remmick must be coming for her. She quickly hid the nail in her pocket and stood back from the door, trying to look calm. The footsteps stopped outside the door, and Sammy heard the sound of a key turning in the lock. The door creaked open, and Remmick stood in the doorway, a sly smile spreading across his face. "Good morning, Sammy," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I see you're awake. I was worried you might be feeling a bit...under the weather." Sammy glared at him, trying to keep her fear in check. "What do you want from me?" she demanded, her voice firm. Remmick chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Oh, Sammy," he said. "You have no idea what you're capable of. But don't worry, I'll show you. I'll show you everything." As Remmick stepped closer, Sammy felt a surge of fear. What did he mean? What was she capable of? And what did he plan to do with her? Suddenly, a loud crash echoed from outside the room, followed by the sound of shouting and scuffling. Remmick's head snapped towards the door, his eyes narrowing. "It seems like your friends are trying to rescue you," he said, his voice cold. "But don't worry, I'll take care of them. You, on the other hand, are coming with me." Sammy's heart sank as Remmick grabbed her arm and pulled her out of the room. She knew she had to think fast if she was going to escape. But how? Remmick dragged Sammy out of the room, she saw Mike and Emily fighting off a group of Remmick's minions in the hallway. Mike's eyes locked onto hers, and she saw a flash of relief before he turned back to face their attackers. Remmick's grip on her arm tightened as he pulled her towards the stairs. "Don't think they'll be able to save you," he sneered. "My powers are too strong." Sammy struggled against his grip, but it was no use. She was trapped. As they reached the bottom of the stairs, Remmick pushed her towards a door that led outside. The cool night air hit her like a slap in the face as Remmick pulled her across the lawn. Sammy stumbled, her heels catching in the grass. Remmick didn't slow down, his grip on her arm like a vice. Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows. It was Mike, his eyes blazing with determination. "Let her go, Remmick," he growled. Remmick laughed, the sound sending shivers down Sammy's spine. "You think you can stop me?" he taunted. "I have powers beyond your wildest imagination." Mike charged at Remmick, but the vampire was too fast. He sidestepped Mike's attack and sent him crashing to the ground. Sammy saw her chance and took it, wrenching her arm free from Remmick's grip. She ran towards Mike, helping him to his feet. "We have to get out of here," she whispered. Mike nodded, his eyes locked on Remmick's. "Let's go," he said, pulling Sammy towards the trees. As they ran, Sammy heard Remmick's angry shout behind them. "You'll never escape me!" he yelled. But Sammy didn't look back. She kept running, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew they had to get as far away from Remmick as possible. As they reached the trees, Mike grabbed her hand and pulled her deeper into the woods. "We need to find a safe place to hide," he said, his voice low and urgent. Sammy nodded, her breath coming in ragged gasps. She knew they couldn't keep running forever. They needed a plan, and they needed it fast. But for now, they just kept running, the darkness closing in around them like a shroud. As they ran deeper into the woods, the trees seemed to close in around them, casting long, ominous shadows on the ground. Sammy's breath was coming in ragged gasps, her heart pounding in her chest. She could hear Remmick's angry shouts getting fainter, but she knew they couldn't outrun him forever. Mike pulled her to a stop, his eyes scanning the surrounding trees. "We need to find a safe place to hide," he said, his voice low and urgent. "Somewhere Remmick won't think to look." Sammy nodded, her eyes scanning the woods. That's when she saw it - a small cabin in the distance, partially hidden by the trees. "There," she said, pointing towards the cabin. "Let's go there." Mike followed her gaze, his eyes narrowing. "Okay, let's go," he said, grabbing her hand and pulling her towards the cabin. As they approached the cabin, Sammy saw that it was old and weathered, the wooden boards worn smooth by time and weather. But it looked sturdy enough, and it was hidden enough that Remmick might not think to look for them here. Mike pushed open the creaky door, his eyes scanning the interior. The cabin was dark and musty, the air thick with the scent of old wood and decay. But it was empty, and that was all that mattered. Sammy followed Mike inside, her eyes adjusting to the dim light. The cabin was small, with a single room and a loft above. There was a fireplace in the center of the room, surrounded by a circle of stones. Mike closed the door behind them, his eyes locked on the window. "We'll be safe here for a while," he said. "But we need to come up with a plan. We can't stay hidden forever." Sammy nodded, her mind racing. She knew Mike was right. They needed a plan, and they needed it fast. But as she looked around the cabin, she felt a sense of unease. Something didn't feel right. And then, she saw it - a small piece of paper on the table, with a note scrawled in red ink. "Welcome, Sammy," it read. "I've been waiting for you." Sammy's heart sank as she realized the truth. Remmick had been here before them. He had left the note, knowing they would find it. And that meant they weren't alone. Remmick was still out there, waiting for them.
