Chapter Three
What She Wanted
The buzz of the alarm clock aroused her, awaking her from a pleasant dream. The clock was on Manny’s side of the bed, but even before his hand had extinguished the alarm Linda had sprang out of the bed. She was naked, for she always slept that way, and would remain so for now, for she was not allowed to wear anything, not even a robe until Manny had left for work. In the meantime she had tasks to perform. She hurried into the kitchen where she opened one of the cabinets to retrieve a can of coffee and a box of filters. The coffee needed to be ready by the time Manny had returned from the bathroom; she could hear him in there now. She filled the coffee machine and poured in the water.
