Emma sat on her bed, staring at the text message on her phone. It was from Ben, her boyfriend of two years.
"I'm sorry, Emma," the message read. "I just don't think we're right for each other anymore."
Emma felt her heart sink. She had been expecting this, ever since Ben had started acting distant over the past few weeks. But it didn't make it any easier.
She closed her eyes and tried to hold back the tears. She didn't want to cry. She didn't want to show Ben that he had hurt her.
But it was no use. The tears came anyway, streaming down her face. She buried her face in her hands and sobbed.
After a while, the tears stopped. Emma wiped her face and sat up. She took a deep breath and tried to compose herself.
She knew that she couldn't stay in her room forever. She had to face the world, even though she didn't want to.
She got up and went to the mirror. She looked at her reflection and saw a girl with red eyes and puffy cheeks. She looked like she had been crying for days.
But she knew that she had to pull herself together. She had to be strong.
She took a few deep breaths and forced a smile. She looked at herself in the mirror again. She still didn't look great, but she looked better.
She went downstairs and found her mom in the kitchen.
"Mom," she said. "Ben broke up with me."
Her mom put down the spatula she was holding and came over to Emma. She gave her a hug.
"I'm so sorry, honey," she said. "I know how much you loved him."
Emma nodded. "I did," she said. "But I guess it wasn't meant to be."
"I know it's hard right now," her mom said. "But you'll get through this. You're strong."
Emma smiled. "Thanks, Mom," she said. "I know I will."
Emma spent the rest of the day trying to distract herself. She watched TV, read a book, and even went for a walk. But it was hard to focus on anything. All she could think about was Ben.
That night, she went to bed early. She was exhausted, both physically and emotionally. But she couldn't sleep. She kept thinking about Ben.
She finally drifted off to sleep around 2am. But she had nightmares all night. In her dreams, Ben was leaving her, over and over again.
When she woke up the next morning, she felt like she hadn't slept at all. She was tired, but she knew she couldn't stay in bed all day.
She got up and got dressed. She went downstairs and made herself breakfast. Then she went to school.
School was a blur. Emma went through the motions, but she wasn't really there. All she could think about was Ben.
After school, she went home and went to her room. She closed the door and lay on her bed. She stared at the ceiling, feeling lost and alone.
She didn't know what to do. She didn't know how to move on. She just wanted to go back in time and change things.
But she knew that wasn't possible. She had to accept that Ben was gone.
She took a deep breath and let it out slowly. She knew that it would take time, but she would get through this. She had to.
She closed her eyes and fell asleep.
The next day, Emma woke up feeling a little better. She still missed Ben, but she wasn't as heartbroken as she had been the day before.
She went to school and tried to focus on her studies. After school, she went to the library and checked out a book on self-help.
The book was full of advice on how to deal with heartbreak. Emma read the book from cover to cover. She took the advice to heart and started to feel better.
She started to focus on herself. She started to do things that she enjoyed. She started to make new friends.
It wasn't easy, but Emma slowly started to heal. She started to feel like herself again.
She knew that she would never forget Ben. But she also knew that she would be okay. She had survived heartbreak before, and she would survive it again.
She was strong. She was capable. She would get through this.
She smiled
