Chapter 3 The Interview

Leilani. "Take your seat," An elderly lady greeted, pointing at the seat in front of the only male figure in the room, he sat in between the two ladies, the other looked like a young patrician in her early twenties-my eyes darted back to the man in front of me whose expression was indescribable. Like he hated me already. His grey-color orbs glared knives at me bitterly, eyeing me with a burning rage that was beginning to be obvious to the other two ladies. What is with him? "Do l know you?" He snorted intently. What? I shook my head unbelievably, shaking my hands in disagreement as well, "No, you don't," l responded honestly even though my heart twitched intensely as it felt like l had seen him before but l can't figure out where and when. "Really?" He scoffed, chuckling ridiculously, his voice sounded familiar but his scent was even more unrecognizable-his domineering aura scintillated aggressively. "Cedrick, watch your behavior, don't shoo the little Omega away," The younger girl mocked, skimming through the files in her hands. "I'm not doing this!" He slammed the table with his fist and walked out of the office glaring at me disgustingly. Cedrick? Alpha Cedrick? Wait! -l wheezed, covering my mouth with my palm and sucking in my breath instantly, he could not be…? He is not the guy from that night right? Or maybe since he came to the bar he might have seen me with Arden and recognized me from there. But why is he acting so sour? Does it mean that I'm already disqualified? I can't even believe that the Alpha himself will be available for the interview, l thought it will be different, maybe have a personal meeting with him and the family with the Pack elders available. Why am I thinking about that right now? f**k. "I guess my brother is not interested, let's wrap it up," The young girl scoffed, boring her gaze on me. I didn't wait to be told twice, l picked up my bag and walked out -l hurried out ignoring the murmuring and chattering in the lobby. I expected to be rejected but not like this. I tapped on my phone searching for a nearby taxi to disappear from there and never return when l felt someone watching me from the back, instinctively l turned around but didn't see anyone except the window curtain shrieking on its own. Someone was watching me from upstairs, who could it be? I let out a frustrated sigh and left with the taxi that arrived. ~ "Leilani," Arden called out from the counter immediately after l walked into the bar, it was noon and there weren't many customers. "How did it go?" He asked curiously, with amusement in his voice. "I failed," l shrugged, throwing my handbag on the counter as l took a seat laying on my arms, l held my breath so the tears bogging in my eyelid won't fall apart, I feel rejected, and angry for an unknown reason. "What happened?" Arden asked worriedly, walking over to me. "l don't know, l just know that l have been rejected." "How can you be sure? The Alpha…" "Alpha Cedrick was there himself," I hollered, cutting short his sentence. "And so what? His mother and his younger sister are the ones handling the interview, it's not a secret Lei. " "Why didn't you tell me? Why didn't…?" "l learned about it today as well, you are not the only one that got rejected, another girl was here earlier, bawling her eyes out." "l f*****g hate myself, Arden, no one even gave me the chance to speak as if they all hated me the moment l walked into the office." "There is no reason to blame yourself." "Alpha Cedrick asked if l knew him, he seemed angry after that, especially when l said l didn't, does that mean anything?" l asked, jolting my body upwards, thinking deeply and curiously. "l told you he was here the other night, didn't l?" "Does he hate the idea that l work in a bar? I understand that my occupation is not one to be proud of but he didn't have to be rude to me, he stood up and walked out in the middle of the interview, does that make any sense?" l trailed off embarrassingly, hiding my face between my elbow lazily thinking back to why he had to behave like that. Did l smell really poor? Did my clothes not look attractive enough? Am l not beautiful enough? I know l have dreamed right from my coming of age that l was going to participate in the bridal selection for the next Alpha, it has always been a tradition in our pack for the Alpha to choose a bride of his choice, that is how it has been done even before I was born and l have failed at it. "Don't think too much about it Lei, l promise you that Alpha Cedrick is a cool guy, he's not one to care about petty jobs like that when he knows he can change your life with just a card," Arden said nonchalantly, walking back to the counter when it suddenly occurred to me the possibility that l might have f****d the next head Alpha. Change a life with just a card? I reflected, squinting my eyes curiously, "The black card, the card?" l murmured. "Tell me the truth Lei, did you by any chance meet him?" "I'm not sure, the night… That night, l had a client who f****d me in the hallway, it can't be him right?" I asked with wide eyes. "What did you do in the hallway?" Arden chuckled, shaking his head unbelievably. "He said he was on his way to the bathroom, he missed his way and he said he knew you," l explained, feeling dumb and dirty. I swallowed dryly, eyeing Arden as he wouldn't stop chuckling and laughing to his heart's content. "What is funny? This is not the time to laugh," l snickered annoyingly, getting faded out of his nonchalant behavior in a moment like this. "Haven't you gotten your answers already? Even the blind would recognise the person they have f****d, you should stop serving other people if your scent gland is f****d up because l put it to you that Alpha Cedrick was your client the other night, congratulations." "Arden, don't say a thing like that," l huffed, biting my lips, not bringing myself to believe that, although the guy from that night had a black hair and Alpha Cedrick had the same, his voice almost the same with the guy before, it's all a mere coincidence right? There is no way… I flinched exasperatedly as my phone vibrated in my pocket-a text message from an unknown sender. [Meet me at Hotel De Rose, 6 PM] What? I ignored the text message and tugged my phone back into my pocket, why is the sender so rude? Why is everyone so rude to me? I let out a sigh, slugging back on the table to dive away into my thoughts when another text message came vibrating again. [Come with the card l gave you] What? I held my phone tightly looking around to be sure I didn't have a stalker on my tail, could it really be that the guy from last night was Alpha Cedrick? If he is the one, why would he ask me to meet him? And in a hotel of all places? I know I'm slow-witted but that guy from the other night clearly said l should never show up in his face again. "What is going on Lei?" Arden asked, eyeing me closely. "I'm leaving, "I answered back waving at him as l made my way out, l won't sit down here to get the answer l want.
