Chapter Fourteen My mind raced as I made my way back to the manse. What would Admon say? How would I possibly tell him? It was only my deeply ingrained training that kept my pace to a hurried walk. Even though the market was closing, the streets were still busy. People rushed to perform last-minute errands and hurry home to their families. I was just one noble servant among the crowd. My face was an innocuous mask, concealing the frantic worry that ate at me. It seemed at both times an eternity and too soon before Admon’s manse came into view. I still had no real plan for how I would reveal my secret. But I had no doubt my foster-father would know what to do. Pushing my anxiety aside, I rushed past the night guards with barely a nod. They had become used to seeing me in servant’s gear.
