Meadow’s POV:
After his mother had so rudely interrupted us, Alaric chased her out. He kissed me on my mouth, but the moment was already far gone. “f**k,” he cursed. “I’m sorry, baby. I didn’t know she was coming.”
I swallowed the uncomfortable lump in my throat. “Um… it’s fine. I can just…”
“I’ll ask her to leave,” he murmured as something flashed in his eyes. “I know you don’t feel comfortable around her.”
My heart swelled, and for a second, I was tongue-tied. I didn’t know how to respond to Alaric saying he was going to send his mother away on account of my comfort.
“Not exactly…” A nervous laugh escaped me. “But Alaric, she’s your mother. And honestly, if I’m going to stay married to you, I’m going to have to get used to her being around.”
